According to the VNA correspondent in Germany, during the 70-year journey of construction and development, with the contributions of many people, from a simple piece of land, Cottbus Zoo has become an international zoo. This place is not only considered the "lungs" of the city, providing fresh air, a place for rest and relaxation for local people. This is also a "green school" for students and children, and has been preserving many rare animals at risk of extinction.

In his speech welcoming the special occasion of Cottbus Zoo, Mayor of Cottbus Tobias Schick thanked the people for their contributions, especially the Association of Friends of Cottbus Zoo, with 550 members, including Vietnamese people, who have donated up to 1.8 million euros to build Cottbus Zoo over the years.

He also pledged to continue to mobilize necessary investments from federal, state and city governments... to build this ecological area to become stronger and more modern, helping future generations have an environment to both play and learn about nature, trees, animals as well as join hands to protect them.

Director of Cottbus Zoo, Dr. Jens Kämmerling warmly welcomed and thanked Ambassador Vu Quang Minh and Vietnamese friends for their enthusiastic support. In addition to adopting two elephants, Don Chung and Sundali, the Vietnamese animal lovers community also continuously sent fresh fruits and vegetables to the elephants and other animals.

Dr. Kämmerling especially thanked the Ambassador's wife, Mrs. Nguyen Minh Hanh, and the group of sponsors and animal lovers from Leipzig city and a VNA reporter for sponsoring four beautiful peacocks from Cottbus Zoo for one year. Dr. Kämmerling presented a certificate to the group of animal lovers along with the gratitude of the animals here.

On this occasion, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh expressed his pleasure to visit the zoo as well as watch a short film about the development and construction of the zoo. The Ambassador thanked the city government and Cottbus Zoo for receiving the Vietnamese elephant "Don Chung" from Leipzig Zoo to its new home in Cottbus since April last year, saying that this is not only one of the symbolic "gifts" of the Vietnam - Germany friendship, but also increases the appeal and interest of Cottbus Zoo to attract German people as well as some neighboring countries to visit.

Ambassador Vu Quang Minh expressed his joy that the zoo in particular and Cottbus in general have extensive international cooperation with many countries. And of course, among those who love animals and zoos, there are many Vietnamese citizens and people of Vietnamese origin who now consider Cottbus as their second homeland.

Cottbus is also a city with a large Vietnamese population. On this occasion, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh would like to express his sincere thanks to the Mayor, the Director of the Zoo and all the people of Cottbus in particular and Germany in general for welcoming and supporting the Vietnamese people who have chosen this place as their second home over the past decades.

In addition to the gifts to Cottbus Zoo, through the Ambassador on this occasion, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, representative of the sponsors and animal lovers of Leipzig city, donated 1,000 euros to Hanoi Zoo and 1,000 euros to support flood victims in the northern provinces of Vietnam.
