VTV's 24-hour Movement News condemns controversial online phenomena

According to Editor Son Lam, the phrase "idol" first appeared in English in the mid-13th century, and it itself contains "praise and worship".

Nowadays, this phrase can be used for a person in any field, as long as they have talent and have a positive influence recognized in that field. From there, they will receive much love and admiration from the community.

MC Chuyen Dong 24h commented that if this definition is applied to the characters who are currently called "social media idols", they are "fake idols".

“Real and fake are different in the word “talent” but ironically the influence is not much different. Especially with the help of social networks like today,” BTV Son Lam expressed.

In addition to images of recent famous internet phenomena (which have been blurred), the news also lists trends created from these phenomena such as: fan dancing, cropped hair, "showing off photos with a Japanese actress"... The male MC calls these "deviant idols".

Talking to BTV Son Lam, digital media expert Phung Thai Hoc said that there are currently two media channels: mainstream media and unofficial media. He classified Facebook Fanpages as unofficial media channels, only interested in views.

The news report states that curiosity is a human weakness and social media is increasingly exploiting this weakness. As long as audiences still like to see such unsavory information, these platforms will continue to post it.

"To watch or not, in the end, it is still the viewer's decision," BTV Son Lam emphasized.

Sharing with the station about this issue, Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (under the Ministry of Information and Communications ) said: "For videos with short content about offensive issues, we still handle them in the direction of detecting, preventing and handling the providers. The State management agency really cannot have enough human resources and technical tools to scan all platforms with livestream systems. Because there are so many of them."

Who is actress Eimi Fukuda?

Although not specifically named, the "Japanese actress" mentioned by VTV is believed to be actress Eimi Fukada.

Eimi Fukada was born in 1998 and is one of the youngest actresses to participate in the adult film industry in Japan.

Before pursuing an acting career, Eimi was active in a girl group but it was quite unstable. In 2017, she decided to leave the group, officially switched to adult films and became increasingly famous.

VTV caused controversy because of calling

Many people caused controversy when lining up and jostling to take pictures with Japanese actress Eimi Fukuda at a Vietnamese airport.

After being broadcast, the news program Chuyen Dong 24h received many mixed comments. Besides those who supported it, another group opposed the station's viewpoint.

"It's really worrying. Thousands of young people are excited, delighted, and flock to forums to comment on ridiculous and offensive things. No one forbids you from taking photos with others, but the way we celebrate makes us vulgar and rude"; "When social media users follow trends by regularly posting videos with violent content, vulgar comedy, or meeting an adult film actress and viewing them as an idol, it's really worrying";

What are young people "idolizing"? Integrate, don't dissolve these Western-style trends and cultures. What do children, young people who are students, want from this actress that they "idolize" her so much?"; "She is also an actress, permitted by the law in her country, does not violate ethics or laws. Has she done anything wrong when coming to Vietnam?"; "VTV is also good, but this alone is unreasonable"... are some comments from the audience.

Many TikTokers show off photos taken with the Japanese actress

Discussing this issue, psychologist and sociologist Thuy Hai said that the concept of "idol" for young people today is no longer just about stars in the entertainment industry, such as: actors, singers... or talented and ethical people in many fields such as economics , medicine, sports...

The idols of today’s youth also extend to influencers on social networks. They can be producers of positive, humane content, or people who attract views with ridiculous, offensive tricks.

"Everyone has the right to love, like, and express their feelings for any individual depending on their interests and needs. However, when more and more young people imitate fake idols, leading to deviant actions, going against good customs and morals, it is necessary to condemn and even boycott those idols.

To do this, there needs to be synchronization between many parties such as: awareness of social network users; education from families, schools and management work of authorities.

Back to the case of the "Japanese actress", she is a legal actress in Japan. When a tourist comes to Vietnam, with healthy activities, we should have a hospitable and friendly attitude.

What is condemnable here is the phenomenon of YouTubers and TikTokers rushing to take photos together, posting them on social networks and then considering this as a way to attract views, orient or encourage offensive and vulgar comments.

Although adult films and actors in Japan are legal activities, the culture in Vietnam is different. YouTubers and TikTokers themselves must be aware of that to produce content that is suitable for the customs and culture of their country," the expert said.

In early April 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) announced that it would conduct a comprehensive inspection of TikTok in Vietnam in the near future. Two of the issues of TikTok that the MIC is paying attention to include content distribution and advertising.

Mr. Le Quang Tu Do said that TikTok's violations have left serious consequences such as creating a favorable environment for fake news to spread, causing economic damage and social instability. Encouraging young people to imitate and follow bad and offensive trends, distorting the perception and lifestyle of young people, and corrupting the cultural values of the nation. Encouraging and facilitating illegal business activities. Copyright infringement is rampant.
