At around 10:00 p.m. on August 5, the Van Don Special Zone Medical Center (Quang Ninh) received an urgent report from the Thang Loi Commune Health Station about a pregnant woman named BTA (29 years old, 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant, first pregnancy) showing signs of abnormal fetal position, risk of difficult birth, and unable to be delivered at the commune health station.

Immediately, the Center activated the "red alert" procedure outside the hospital, mobilizing a 5-member emergency team, led by Dr. Bui Thanh Tuan, in charge of the Department of Reproductive Health Care and Obstetrics, to urgently take the patient off the island.
According to Dr. Tuan, at that time, the rescue boat left the shore in harsh conditions: heavy rain, dense thunder and lightning, and high waves. After nearly 2 hours at sea, in the early morning of August 6, the rescue team reached the island, coordinated examinations and determined that the pregnant woman had a high head position and a narrow pelvis, requiring a cesarean section. Immediately afterwards, the rescue team brought the pregnant woman back to the mainland, while moving, giving her fluids, preventing contractions, and closely monitoring the condition of the mother and fetus.
At 1:30 a.m., the mother was safely taken to the Van Don Special Zone Medical Center. The emergency surgery was successful immediately after, and the baby girl weighing 2.4 kg was born healthy. Currently, the health of the mother and child is stable.
Notably, the team included young doctor Nguyen Tuan Trung, who had just started working at the center. Despite having little field experience, he volunteered to participate in the dangerous overnight journey, demonstrating the dedication and responsibility of the young medical team.
The baby was born healthy and happy with the joy of relatives and doctors.

Doctor Tuan shared: "In the midst of rough waves, every decision must take into account the safety of the mother and child and the entire team. When the baby cries at birth, it is a priceless reward."
According to the Van Don Special Zone Medical Center, this special emergency case shows the effectiveness of investing in specialized rescue boats, affirming the determination to "leave no one behind", even in the most remote and difficult places on the sea and islands of Quang Ninh .
