The "affordable" luxury Wey 80 2025 has arrived in Vietnam, competing with Lexus LM

The ultra-luxury MPV market is booming in China and Great Wall Motor (GWM) is also entering this segment strongly with the new Wey Gaoshan 9. This is basically a stretched version of the new 2025 Wey 80 large MPV that is now available in Vietnam.

In the Chinese market, the Wey 80 is known by its own name, Gaoshan. Officially launched at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, the Wey Gaoshan 9 has a length of 5,400 mm and a wheelbase of 3,275 mm. Compared to the standard Wey 80, this model is 355 mm longer while the wheelbase is increased by 190 mm.

Most of the increased size is concentrated in the rear area of the car. This change helps the Wey Gaoshan 9 compete better with rivals such as the Lexus LM, Denza D9 and Zeekr 009 Grand. Interestingly, GWM does not follow the 4-seater trend like its rivals Lexus or Zeekr.

Instead, the new 2025 Wey Gaoshan 9 retains the 3-row interior configuration. The additional length allows the company to arrange an additional pair of business seats in the middle row, turning the Wey Gaoshan 9 into a 6-seat MPV.

Thanks to the spacious interior, the car not only provides comfort for passengers in the rear seats but also has a luggage compartment with a standard capacity of 315 liters. When the third row of seats is folded, the storage capacity can reach 1,975 liters.

Meanwhile, the luxurious second row of seats is equipped with electric adjustment features, reclining backrests and calf rests that can be adjusted at the touch of a button, providing optimal resting position for passengers.

Other features include heated, cooled and massaged seats, a 17.3-inch overhead display with gesture control, a fold-out table and a beverage cooler. Other notable features include voice control for all six seats, a 2,440-watt 23-speaker sound system and six karaoke microphones.

In the cockpit, the car has a central touch screen and an entertainment screen for front passengers, both measuring 15.6 inches.

These displays run on the latest Coffee OS 3 operating system, support AI generation and use the modern Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. The two displays have a viewing angle of 91 degrees, supported by a tilt of 22.4 degrees and a horizontal viewing angle of 56.3 degrees, optimizing both aesthetics and usability.

The "heart" of the Wey Gaoshan 9 is the improved Hi4 plug-in hybrid powertrain, including a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing a maximum capacity of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 245 Nm. The two corresponding figures for the front electric motor are 109 horsepower and 170 Nm.

Meanwhile, the rear electric motor produces a maximum output of 184 horsepower and a maximum torque of 232 Nm. The car has a total output of 458 horsepower and a maximum torque of 644 Nm. In addition, there is a 4-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and an NMC battery with a capacity of 51.55 kWh, providing a pure electric range of 201 km according to the WLTP standard.

The total distance that the car can travel after fully charging the battery and filling up with gas is 963 km. In the Chinese market, the price of the Wey Gaoshan 9 is 379,800 yuan (about 1.329 billion VND). In addition to the Gaoshan 9, the Wey Gaoshan line also has 2 other versions: Gaoshan 7 and Gaoshan 8.
