According to the draw results on the afternoon of August 15, Nam Dinh is in Group F with Gamba Osaka (Japan), Ratchaburi FC (Thailand) and Eastern FC (Hong Kong). Gamba Osaka is a team with a rich tradition in the J.League, having won the AFC Champions League 2008 and participated in many continental competitions.
Ratchaburi is also a familiar name in the Thai League. Eastern FC, although rated lower, but their international experience will help the Hong Kong representative become an unpredictable opponent.
Meanwhile, CAHN is in Group E with Beijing FC (China), Macarthur FC (Australia) and Tai Po FC (Hong Kong). Beijing FC is one of the strong teams in the Chinese Super League, having reached the semi-finals.
Macarthur FC, although only established in 2017, has quickly established itself in the A.League with its disciplined play and strong physicality. Tai Po FC is the 2018/19 Hong Kong Premier League champion and possesses many experienced players.
Last season, Nam Dinh used 8-9 foreign players per match, reaching the round of 16 before losing to Sanfrecce Hiroshima. With a strong squad, especially foreign players and overseas Vietnamese players, the two V.League representatives can aim to create a surprise.
