Dien Bien 1 Primary School, where 20 students and 1 teacher had stomachaches and had to be hospitalized on December 21, 2023

Previously, after lunch at Dien Bien 1 Primary School, Dien Bien Ward, Thanh Hoa City on December 21, at the beginning of the afternoon class of the same day, a student vomited, and the teacher asked the parents to take the children home.

By late afternoon, many students had symptoms of stomachache and diarrhea. On the morning of December 22, another student was hospitalized with symptoms of stomachache, diarrhea, and fever. Nine students were hospitalized, five at Thanh Hoa General Hospital, and four at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital.

However, many parents of students at Dien Bien 1 Primary School, Dien Bien Ward, Thanh Hoa City said that the school reported the number of students with signs of stomachache, nausea and fever to the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa City was inaccurate, much less than the actual number.

According to statistics up to December 26, 2023, 1 teacher and 20 students had to be hospitalized for treatment. In addition, some students were absent from school on December 22 due to symptoms of digestive disorders so that their families could monitor and care for them.

Immediately after the incident, the Thanh Hoa Food Safety Department sent food samples for testing. The results showed that the food samples were free of toxins and bacteria. The food samples were safe, and the ingredients were within the allowable threshold.
