(To Quoc) - On January 19, 2025, the "Green Sticky Rice Cake - Tet for the Poor" program took place at the Vietnam Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village, distributing 660 gift packages to impoverished people.


Mr. Pham Van Quyen, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups Cultural and Tourism Village and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Program, said: The "Green Sticky Rice Cake - Tet for the Poor" program is an opportunity for generations of Vietnamese people to show solidarity, mutual support, and compassion, joining hands to continue and promote the tradition of helping those in need, sharing the spirit of celebrating the Year of the Snake with warmth and affection, and looking forward to a peaceful and prosperous new year.

The "Green Sticky Rice Cake - Tet for the Poor" program has been successfully organized for 11 years now.

Through the activities at the Program, a diverse and colorful picture of national culture is showcased, contributing to promoting and introducing the "Common Home" of the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups Cultural and Tourism Village to domestic and international friends, thereby strengthening and consolidating the great unity of the Vietnamese ethnic groups, encouraging enthusiasm, and welcoming the new year with renewed vigor of the Vietnamese ethnic communities; and educating generations of Vietnamese people about their responsibility in preserving, protecting, and promoting the traditional cultural identity of the nation.

Many activities took place during the program, contributing to introducing visitors to the traditional Vietnamese New Year celebration culture.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Khuynh, Political Officer of Battalion 7, Army Officer School 1, said: To implement the policies of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense on deploying national target programs in sustainable poverty reduction, building new rural areas, and promoting socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, for the past 11 years, Army Officer School 1 has always worked closely with the Vietnam Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village in organizing the "Green Sticky Rice Cake - Tet for the Poor" program along with many other charitable activities.

The school consistently focuses on political and ideological education, helping officers, lecturers, students, and soldiers understand the purpose of social activities, thereby participating with the highest sense of responsibility, working together for the community, and determined to ensure that no one is left behind.

Cadets at the Army Officer School 1 enthusiastically participated in the activity of wrapping banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) with the local people.

The program distributed 660 gifts, each worth between 1 and 2 million VND, funded by donations, to beneficiaries of social policies and disadvantaged households.

Ms. Bui Thi Thinh, from Co village, Yen Binh commune, Thach That district, Hanoi, shared her feelings upon receiving a gift from the program: "I am truly touched and heartwarming. For people in difficult circumstances like us, each gift is a meaningful act of sharing, not only helping to alleviate burdens during the end of the year but also bringing joy and hope, allowing us to celebrate Tet in a warmer and more fulfilling way. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the commune authorities, the organizing committee, and the sponsors for this assistance."

The organizers presented gifts to representatives from the participating units.

The highlight of the program was the activity of making green sticky rice cakes (bánh chưng), with the participation of tourists, soldiers, and ethnic people from many provinces and cities such as Thai Nguyen, Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, etc.

Nguyen Ba Khanh, 22 years old, from Yen Bai province, currently a student at the Army Officer School 1, shared: "Before enlisting, I made banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) with my family almost every year. But this year, staying on duty during Tet, I felt a truly special atmosphere. Making banh chung with my comrades and fellow countrymen from many different regions made me feel the warmth of family, togetherness, and solidarity. Thanks to that, my first Tet away from home no longer felt lonely or isolated."

"For me, this is a very meaningful program. It not only demonstrates the spirit of sharing, mutual support, and love of the Vietnamese people, but also strengthens the bond between the military and the people, solidarity, and provides an opportunity for me to interact, learn, and understand more about the diverse ethnic communities of Vietnam," Khánh further shared.

200 gifts worth between 1 and 2 million VND were given to Dinh Tien commune, Yen Dinh district, Thanh Hoa province; 150 gifts to Ninh Lai commune, Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province; 50 gifts to Son Tay town and Thach That and Ba Vi districts, Hanoi; 100 gifts to the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Ba Trai commune, Ba Vi district; 50 gifts to the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Muoi hamlet, Yen Bai commune, Son Tay town, Hanoi; and 110 gifts to people living at the Vietnam Ethnic Groups Cultural and Tourism Village.
