According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , in January 2024, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 5.14 billion USD, an increase of 79.2% over the same period last year; while the import value was 3.72 billion USD.

Thus, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery surplus production in the first month of 2024 reached over 1.4 billion USD, an increase of more than 4.6 times over the same period last year.
The export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products increased sharply, reaching 5.14 billion USD thanks to the increase in the contribution of all product groups: forestry products 1.49 billion USD, up 72.5%; aquatic products 730 million USD, up 60.8%; agricultural products 2.71 billion USD, up 93.8%; livestock 36 million USD, up 3.5%; production inputs 177 million USD, up 49.2%.
In terms of markets, the export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to all markets increased. Of which, exports to the Americas were 1.18 billion USD (up 93.6%); Africa 104 million USD (up 185.4%); Asia 2.52 billion USD (up 86.3%); Europe 532 million USD (up 38.2%) and Oceania 78 million USD (up 100.9%).
The export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to China accounted for 23%, up 106.9%; the US accounted for 20.8%, up 95.9% and Japan accounted for 7.4%, up 47.5%.
The Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the unit has proactively negotiated to open the market, promptly removed difficulties, and promoted the consumption of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. Thanks to that, in 2023, many more seafood establishments have been allowed to export to markets such as the EU, China, Korea, the US, etc.
Specifically, 38 seafood export facilities were added to Korea, bringing the total to 786 facilities; 13 seafood processing facilities for export to the EU, bringing the total to 524 facilities; 45 facilities for packaging live tiger prawns, whiteleg shrimp, crabs, and lobsters, bringing the total to 585 seafood export facilities to China; 1 tra fish facility to the US, bringing the total to 26 facilities; 2 more seafood export facilities to the Russian Federation, bringing the total to 83 facilities.
Along with that, the whole country has 6,997 growing areas granted export codes to markets; 1,613 packaging facilities granted export codes; additional export products (durian, bird's nest to China; Dien grapefruit, fresh coconut to the United States...). Units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have promptly removed difficulties in exporting to markets, shipments warned by competent authorities of countries...
In 2023, the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, issued 39,576 certificates/45,170 registration dossiers (reaching 88%); received and processed 197/211 registration dossiers via the online public service portal (reaching 93.4%). In the coming time, the unit will continue to guide localities to improve their organization and increase resources for management of food quality, safety, processing and market development. At the same time, organize concentrated production areas applying high technology, advanced quality management systems associated with agricultural and aquatic product processing facilities to ensure quality, safety and traceability of products.
The unit also guides and supports people and businesses in transferring post-harvest technology applications, increasing processing; organizing production according to market regulations; building and developing brands, enhancing advertising, trade promotion, connecting trade to develop domestic and foreign markets.
Regarding imports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the import value was 3.72 billion USD, a fairly high increase of 45.1% due to the increase in imported goods such as: agricultural products 2.2 billion USD, up 41.1%; livestock products 300 million USD, up 46.8%; aquatic products 250 million USD, up 33.9%; forestry products 253 million USD, up 100.7%...
Regarding the domestic market, in January, prices of most commodities tended to increase compared to December 2023 due to high demand near the Lunar New Year but were relatively stable. In particular, livestock products have tended to decrease from the last months of 2023 until now, such as pigs (down 10.5%), cows (down 2.5%), colored chickens (down 2.3%), and industrial chickens (down 6.8%).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in general, the supply of agricultural products is abundant, ensuring consumption during the Lunar New Year, prices do not fluctuate much, and some items even decrease due to people changing their consumption habits.
