Leading export turnover in the country
The US announcement to impose reciprocal tariffs on imports from 90 major trading partners, effective from April 2, 2025, has greatly affected the domestic and foreign financial and trade markets, reducing the resilience of the supply chain. However, with the participation of the Government and the efforts of the province and the business community, import and export activities in Bac Ninh still have breakthroughs and positive growth. Total import and export turnover in 8 months is estimated at more than 112 billion USD; of which, exports reached 57.3 billion USD, up 27.16% over the same period; imports reached 54.6 billion USD, up 34.35%. The trade balance of goods progressed towards a trade surplus, reaching 2.7 billion USD. Bac Ninh continues to maintain its role as a center for the production and export of high-tech industrial goods (phones, components, electronic equipment).

It is worth noting that in July, Bac Ninh's export turnover reached 8.67 billion USD, surpassing Ho Chi Minh City and rising to the leading position in the country. This growth continued in August with a turnover of 8.7 billion USD. Thus, for 2 consecutive months after the merger, Bac Ninh has made a breakthrough, leading the country in terms of export value of goods.
Samsung Group is currently the largest investor in Bac Ninh and accounts for the majority of the province's export structure. According to Mr. Roh Tae Moon, CEO of Samsung Electronics, the Group's total investment capital in Vietnam has reached 23.2 billion USD, of which nearly 11 billion USD is in Bac Ninh alone. After 16 years since the start of production (April 2009), factories in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen have reached the milestone of producing 2 billion mobile phones, accounting for 50% of the total global output. Samsung's export turnover accounts for 14% of the country's.
According to the assessment of the Provincial Industrial Park Management Board, this growth rate was achieved thanks to the combined efforts of the two industrial capitals of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh (old), creating a large production and export center of the country. Along with that is the initiative of enterprises in finding partners, signing new orders, increasing production capacity, creating momentum for the Industrial Production Index (IIP) to increase sharply with an 8-month increase of 16.19%. This is an important foundation for the province to break through and rise to the leading position in the country in terms of export. In particular, the province's export turnover to markets with free trade agreements (FTAs) and major partners such as China, the United States, the EU, Japan, Korea, etc. all achieved high growth rates.
Mr. Tatsuya Matsui, Director of THK Vietnam Factory (Tien Son Industrial Park) said: THK Vietnam Company built a factory in Bac Ninh in 2007, and has so far invested in expanding and increasing the floor area by 3 times, from 8,000 m2 to 24,000 m2 . This has contributed to increasing output and export value. The company is planning to expand the factory scale and considering building a second factory in Bac Ninh.
Agricultural exports increase
Along with industry, Bac Ninh's agricultural exports have many positive prospects. Entering the 2025 lychee crop with a proactive mindset, the province is determined to continue affirming the "lychee" brand in the domestic and international markets. The province has established a working group to direct, guide, supervise, and manage the production of growing area codes and packaging facilities; at the same time, connecting and creating favorable conditions for farmers to sign contracts with businesses, ensuring high-quality goods for domestic consumption and export. Thanks to that, this year's lychee export output reached a record 78.2 thousand tons, accounting for 38% of the province's total output. The main export markets are China, the United States, Japan, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, etc.

In 2025, for the first time, Bac Ninh will promote the export of lychees to the European market - considered a region with great potential. According to experts, the lychee market is growing strongly, and its value is expected to skyrocket in the coming years. Vietnamese lychees, including Bac Ninh lychees, will be welcomed by many international customers.
In addition to lychee, longan is the province's main crop, exported for the first time this year to the Australian market. The province currently has 3,641 hectares of longan, with an estimated output of 24,183 tons, mainly concentrated in localities such as Luc Son commune, Dong Ky commune, Phuong Son ward... The province has granted 35 longan growing area codes with a total area of 607.14 hectares; of which: Exports to the Chinese market have 15 area codes, an area of 389 hectares; the United States has 5 area codes, an area of 53.28 hectares; Japan has 5 area codes, an area of 53.28 hectares; Australia has 10 area codes, an area of 111.58 hectares.
The Garden Vietnam Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Hanoi) specializes in purchasing agricultural products for export to the markets of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, Director of the Company, shared: "Before signing a contract with Bac Ninh farmers, we conducted a survey and evaluated the potential and quality of longan fruit in the locality. On that basis, the Company purchased fresh longan in Luc Son commune, then brought it to Thanh Hai Agricultural Cooperative (Chu ward) for preliminary processing and packaging. Currently, the Company has exported 16 tons of fresh longan to Australia. In addition to longan, the Company plans to expand the export of Dien Chu grapefruit to Australia."
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that the province currently has about 53,900 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds. The province has issued 400 growing area codes and 43 packaging facility codes for export; the total value of fruit trees reached more than 7,400 billion VND... From the beginning of the year, the Department has proactively connected with businesses and retail groups to support people in consuming agricultural products; at the same time, supporting businesses in surveying, purchasing, processing, and exporting in many forms. For exports to international markets, Bac Ninh focuses on coordinating with Vietnamese trade counselors abroad to promote connection activities and promote local agricultural products.
Market diversification
With great potential in industrial and agricultural production, Bac Ninh province still has a lot of room to increase its export turnover. Therefore, continuing to promote the expansion and diversification of export markets is one of the important solutions that the province is interested in and directing to promote economic growth in 2025 and the following years.
In July, Bac Ninh's export turnover reached 8.67 billion USD; in August, it reached 8.7 billion USD. Thus, for 2 consecutive months after the merger, Bac Ninh has made a breakthrough, leading the country in terms of export value of goods. |
The province directs localities and units to focus on diversifying markets, taking advantage of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), especially new markets such as the Middle East, Africa, and India. At the same time, carry out activities to connect supply and demand, search for domestic and foreign markets; effectively utilize diplomatic dialogue channels and through the system of Trade Offices, actively seek opportunities and new orders for export industries. Trade promotion activities are implemented in the direction of diversification, effectively exploiting market opening opportunities to boost exports to key markets, large markets and potential markets. In addition, the province also focuses on developing the private economy, supporting small and medium enterprises to participate in the global value chain, promoting service exports and developing logistics.
According to the leader of the Department of Industry and Trade, along with the province's solutions, the business community needs to proactively grasp market information, improve product quality and meet new technical standards. Enterprises need to be proactive, flexible, closely follow information and recommendations from the Government and ministries and branches to promptly adjust production and business activities, strictly comply with regulations of the export market. Along with that, it is necessary to invest in research, apply technology, improve management capacity to increase product competitiveness; equip knowledge on trade defense, and enhance the capacity to respond to trade disputes.
