On the morning of November 25, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) held a press conference for the 7th term congress (2025 - 2030) and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association 2025 Summary in two forms: in person in Hanoi and online in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), said that the period of 2020 - 2025 will be an unprecedented challenge for the textile and garment industry due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and complex geopolitical fluctuations, new technical barriers on the environment, and increased protectionist policies, typically the reciprocal tariffs of the United States. However, thanks to the proactive and flexible nature of the business community and the effective connecting role of VITAS, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry has maintained its growth momentum and maintained its position in the Top 3 textile and garment exporting powers in the world.
“In particular, 2025 marks an impressive recovery of the industry with outstanding indicators, export turnover is estimated at 46 billion USD, up 5.6% compared to 2024. Trade surplus is estimated at 21 billion USD, affirming the pivotal role in the national trade balance. The rate of added domestic value is about 52%, showing a big step forward in proactively supplying raw materials,” said Mr. Vu Duc Giang.
Mr. Vu Duc Giang said that contributing to the above achievements of the industry is a very important role of VITAS. Over the past 5 years, facing unprecedented fluctuations, the Association has demonstrated its steadfastness in connecting the business community, developing 293 new members (compared to 164 members of the 5th term) and strengthening the supply chain between domestic enterprises and the FDI sector.
Trade promotion activities were strongly implemented with 10 national programs and 20 autonomous programs, bringing businesses to access leading prestigious exhibitions in the United States (Magic Show), France (Premier Vision), Germany, Australia, Russia and Canada to maintain and expand market share.
In the field of international cooperation, VITAS has cooperated extensively with organizations such as ILO, IFC, GIZ, IDH, WWF, KITECH... and major textile and garment associations (CNTAC, KOFOTI, ITMF, AAFA, CCI...) to mobilize resources, organize nearly 300 seminars, in-depth training on techniques, design and especially dual conversion programs, greenhouse gas emission reduction and sustainable development.
Most notably in its policy advisory role, VITAS has persistently made recommendations to the National Assembly, the Government and Ministries to promptly remove bottlenecks in administrative procedures, the Law on Social Insurance, the Law on Quality of Trade Union Funds, on-the-spot import-export procedures and tax and credit policies, contributing to improving the business environment and creating motivation for businesses to recover and develop. In addition to listening to and accompanying member businesses, VITAS also cooperates with many industry associations to propose amendments and supplements to Laws, Decrees and Circulars related to production, business and import-export activities in general of the entire Vietnamese economic sector.
Entering Term VII (2025 - 2030), with the orientation of sustainable development and circular economy, VITAS sets the target of export turnover reaching 64.5 billion USD by 2030, with an average growth rate of 6.5 - 7%/year. Developing the domestic market to reach a scale of 8 - 9 billion USD. The strategic focus is 'Greening - Digitalization', increasing the localization rate to over 60% and building a strong Vietnamese fashion brand.
The representative of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) said that the 7th Congress (2025 - 2030) and the 2025 Year-end Summary of VITAS will be held on December 16-17, 2025 at Melia Hotel, Hanoi. This event will attract about 500 guests who are leaders of ministries, branches, localities; leading economic and labor experts from prestigious international organizations in Vietnam, businesses, brands, policy makers, experts and business leaders to discuss "Development strategy of Vietnam's textile and garment industry in a volatile environment"; share flexible adaptation solutions to help the textile and garment industry develop sustainably and move towards a circular economy.
