On December 4, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien informed about the results of production and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 11 months of 2024.
Coffee export price increased from 2,570 to more than 4,000 USD/ton
According to Mr. Tien, despite facing difficulties and challenges, the agricultural sector still has many bright spots in production, especially exports have reached important milestones.
Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in November reached 5.3 billion USD, up 13.9% compared to November last year. In the first 11 months, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 56.74 billion USD, up 19%, with a trade surplus of 16.5 billion USD, up 52.8%.
Thus, after 11 months, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports have reached the target of over 55 billion USD assigned by the Prime Minister at the 2023 year-end conference.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 11 months of this year, exports of some key agricultural products such as rice, coffee, and vegetables all brought in record amounts.
For example, coffee, although the export volume was only 1.2 million tons (down 15% compared to the same period last year), the revenue reached 4.84 billion USD (up 33%), thanks to the average export price reaching 4,037 USD/ton (while in the same period last year the average price reached 2,570 USD/ton).
For rice, in addition to the increased export volume, the average export price continued to increase by more than 10% compared to the same period last year, helping the rice industry earn 5.31 billion USD for the first time.
Fruit and vegetable exports reached a new record turnover after 11 months with 6.6 billion USD, while the whole previous year's value reached 5.7 billion USD.
"If this December, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports continue to reach over 5 billion USD, then this year we will earn over 60 billion USD," said Mr. Tien.

Why do agricultural exports continuously set records?
According to Mr. Tien, to achieve this result, the agricultural sector received attention from the Party and the State, especially the close direction of the Government and the Prime Minister. For example, after storm No. 3, the Prime Minister issued a resolution and telegram directing the focus on restoring production in affected provinces and focusing on accelerating in unaffected provinces.
From this direction, all leaders of the ministry and its units have dispersed to localities to summarize, assess damage and immediately deploy solutions to restore production.
"For marine aquaculture, the ministry has provided 1 million seaweed seeds for harvest at the end of the year. For livestock, the focus is on raising colored chickens, waterfowl, and industrial chickens; for forestry, the ministry has directed the collection of wood to produce wood chips and pellets...
Along with that, the ministry focuses on solutions to promote production in the South Central provinces and the Mekong Delta to increase aquaculture to ensure food sources," said Mr. Tien.
According to Mr. Tien, to achieve sustainable results as today, over the past years, the agricultural sector has restructured in the direction of going into depth, producing in chains, keeping pace with the circular economy, green economy to reduce emissions in rice production, aquaculture, and livestock farming.
Another important factor is science and technology, in all agricultural fields, research results and advanced technology from other countries are applied and transferred through institutes, schools and enterprises.
Accurate forecasting of drought and salinity is also an important element of science and technology to direct production flexibly and appropriately, minimizing damage. At the same time, technology is applied to systematically control aquatic and livestock diseases and pests in cultivation.
"Along with trade promotion, we focus on traditional markets such as China, the US, the EU and promote the Halal market - a huge potential market with 2.2 billion people and last year we opened a number of products" - Mr. Tien added.
