Dak Lak resolutely implements solutions for the 2025-2026 coffee crop year

DNVN - The People's Committee of Dak Lak province has just issued Directive No. 011/CT-UBND on coffee production, harvesting, processing and consumption in the 2025-2026 crop year, in the context that this key industry is expected to face many challenges from the market and climate change.

With an area of over 212,000 hectares and an output of over 530,000 tons per year, coffee continues to play a key role in the province’s economic structure. However, price fluctuations, increasingly stringent requirements from the international market and extreme weather impacts have made the new crop year considered a “double problem” requiring concerted efforts.

According to the directive, the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, communes and wards must increase propaganda and require people and businesses not to harvest green coffee. The rate of ripe fruit when harvested must reach at least 85%; at the end of the season, it must not be below 80%.

The province also strongly encourages the replacement of traditional polluting drying kilns with modern drying technology to ensure the quality and value of coffee beans.

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to take the lead in implementing the directive, and at the same time cooperate with research institutes and schools to put into production high-yield coffee varieties that are resistant to climate change.

Another important task is to continue to coordinate the implementation of the requirements of the European Union Deforestation and Forest Degradation Regulation (EUDR) for coffee; in parallel, review the replanting plan for the period 2026-2030.

The Department of Industry and Trade is assigned to supervise purchasing activities, strictly handle price gouging, weight gouging and commercial fraud. At the same time, the department will strengthen trade promotion, support businesses to expand markets, especially exports.

The provincial police are required to strengthen the management of seasonal workers' residence, deploy measures to maintain security and order, promptly combat and eradicate coffee theft groups, protection rackets, and price gouging gangs.

The State Bank of Vietnam, Branch 11, directed credit institutions to prioritize capital sources for lending to coffee purchasing, processing, exporting and replanting; at the same time, make the process transparent, creating favorable conditions for people and businesses to access capital.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association to increase propaganda about EUDR regulations and support members in traceability and developing local specialty coffee brands.
