Exchange rate developments in the world market

The US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) increased by 0.12% to 107.70.

The US dollar edged up against other currencies but remained near its lowest level since early last week.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Yen hit an eight-week high against the USD in the last trading session.

Specifically, the Japanese Yen increased to 151.81 Yen/USD - the highest level since December 12 after Bank of Japan (BoJ) board member Naoki Tamura said that the central bank may have to raise interest rates by at least 1% until the second half of 2025 when price risks increase.

The Japanese currency closed the trading session at 151.335 Yen/USD, up 0.82% from the previous trading session.

Markets are currently pricing in a 25 basis point BoJ rate hike in September.

“Tamura is known for his hawkish views on monetary policy, and his initial comments prompted the market to buy the Japanese yen,” said Shoki Omori, a strategist at Mizuho Securities.

In addition, the British pound fell 0.54% to $1.2438. The euro fell slightly by 0.19% to $1.0382.
