Zinchenko will play for Nottingham Forest. |
Zinchenko has been looking to leave Arsenal all summer after falling out of favour with the manager. The left-back had been a target for Marseille, but his wages, believed to be in excess of £100,000 a week, proved to be a major stumbling block.
Zinchenko is now close to completing a season-long loan move to Forest, after the club made a surprise last-minute switch of approach.
Forest were initially chasing Atletico Madrid defender Javi Galan, but negotiations with the Spanish club collapsed and they turned to Zinchenko. The Ukraine international's contract expires next summer, so Arsenal are keen to sell him to recoup some of the losses.
In the summer of 2022, Zinchenko joined Arsenal for a fee of around £30 million. He immediately became a mainstay in the 2022/23 season, when Arsenal competed with Man City for the Premier League title. Zinchenko's "inverted full-back" role - a full-back who moved into the middle - helped Arsenal control the game and play the ball smoothly from the back.
However, injuries and fierce competition from young faces like Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu gradually caused him to lose his official position in the following seasons.
Zinchenko's departure comes on the final day of an eventful transfer window for Arsenal, which saw Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira and Jakub Kiwior also leave the club.
