Zinchenko will play for Nottingham Forest. |
Zinchenko has been looking to leave Arsenal all summer after falling out of favour with the manager. The left-back had been a target for Marseille, but wages believed to be in excess of £100,000 a week proved a major stumbling block.
Zinchenko is now close to completing a season-long loan move to Forest, after the club made a surprise last-minute switch of approach.
Forest were initially chasing Atletico Madrid defender Javi Galan, but after talks with the Spanish club collapsed, they turned to Zinchenko. The Ukrainian international's contract expires next summer, so Arsenal are keen to sell him now to recoup some losses.
Zinchenko joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022 for a fee of around £30 million. He immediately became a mainstay in the 2022/23 season, when Arsenal competed head-to-head with Manchester City for the Premier League title. Zinchenko’s “inverted full-back” role – a full-back who plays centrally – helped Arsenal control the game and build the ball smoothly from the back.
However, injuries and fierce competition from young faces like Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu gradually caused him to lose his official position in the following seasons.
Zinchenko's departure comes on the final day of Arsenal's busy transfer window, which saw Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira and Jakub Kiwior also leave the club.
