The ReCoPro project is co-funded by the German Government and PGPV, and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with PGPV from November 2021 to November 2025 in the two provinces of Dak Lak and Lam Dong. The project aims to enhance the adaptability to climate change and improve the income of small-scale cocoa farmers, while promoting sustainable farming practices.
The project focuses on supporting farmers in transitioning from monoculture to agroforestry, intercropping forest trees and fruit trees with cocoa. This method provides necessary shade for cocoa trees, diversifies income sources, and increases the resilience of the farm.

The project provided nearly 90,000 seedlings to 300 farming households, organized 88 training sessions and field demonstrations with over 2,000 participants. Farmers gained access to advanced techniques such as drip irrigation systems (which reduce water usage by up to 30%), composting techniques utilizing agricultural by-products like cocoa husks, using Trichoderma fungi to improve soil, and raising yellow ants for natural pest control.
The project has established eight demonstration plots in Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces. These plots have yielded significant results in terms of productivity and quality. Notably, two demonstration plots in the former Ea Kar district have increased wet grain yield by 1.5 times compared to before the application of regenerative farming methods (2023-2025) and compared to other traditional production plots.

In addition to technical support, the project also enhances business, marketing, and e-commerce skills for cooperatives. Simultaneously, it tests a community carbon finance mechanism, piloting a subsidy of approximately 3,000-4,000 VND per surviving tree during monitoring periods.
Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Dang Thi Thuy, stated that promoting agricultural production with reduced emissions and greening the value chain is an inevitable trend and also an opportunity for farmers and businesses to participate in the carbon credit market, increase product value, and build environmentally friendly agricultural product brands.

The opinions, experiences, and initiatives shared at the seminar will be valuable resources to help Dak Lak province further refine its policies and development orientation for cocoa cultivation and sustainable agriculture, contributing to the successful achievement of the goals of green agriculture, modern rural areas, and civilized farmers.
