The ReCoPro project is co-financed by the German Government and PGPV, implemented by GIZ in collaboration with PGPV from November 2021 to November 2025 in Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces. The project aims to enhance climate change resilience and improve incomes for small-scale cocoa farmers, while promoting sustainable farming practices.

The project focuses on supporting farmers to transition from monoculture to agroforestry, intercropping forest trees and fruit trees with cocoa. This method not only provides the necessary shade for cocoa trees, but also helps diversify income sources and increase farm resilience.

The project provided nearly 90,000 seedlings to 300 households, organized 88 training sessions and field demonstrations with more than 2,000 participants. Farmers were exposed to advanced techniques such as drip irrigation systems (which reduce water use by up to 30%), composting techniques using agricultural by-products such as cocoa husks, using Trichoderma fungi to improve soil, and raising weaver ants for natural pest control.

The project has built 8 demonstration model gardens in Dak Lak and Lam Dong . These models have brought about clear results in terms of productivity and quality. Notably, 2 model gardens in Ea Kar district (old) have increased wet grain yield by 1.5 times compared to before applying regenerative farming methods (2023 - 2025 period) and compared to other traditional production gardens.

In addition to technical support, the project also improves business, marketing and e-commerce skills for cooperatives. At the same time, it is testing a community carbon finance mechanism, piloting incentives for farmers of about 3,000 - 4,000 VND for each tree that survives monitoring periods.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Dang Thi Thuy said that promoting agricultural production to reduce emissions and green the value chain is an inevitable trend and also an opportunity for farmers and businesses to participate in the carbon credit market, increase product value, and build environmentally friendly agricultural product brands.

Cocoa products of the cooperative participating in the project were displayed at the seminar.

The opinions, experiences and initiatives shared at the seminar will be a valuable source of information to help Dak Lak province continue to improve policies and orientations for cocoa development and sustainable agriculture, contributing to the successful implementation of the goal of green agriculture - modern countryside - civilized farmers.
