According to survey data released by the South Korean government on March 30, the number of people using artificial intelligence (AI) in the country has nearly doubled in a year, reaching one-third of the population.
According to a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in South Korea, a survey on internet usage conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT with over 60,200 people from 25,500 households nationwide showed that the number of people who had experienced AI-generated services in 2024 surged to 33.3%, up from 17.6% the previous year. With this result, one in three internet users in South Korea has experienced AI-generated services such as OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot.
According to the survey, nearly 82% of respondents said they seek AI-generated services for information research; 44% use them to assist with paperwork, and 40% for foreign language translation.
The survey results also showed that approximately 98% of users in South Korea said they use instant messaging services, primarily on the KakaoTalk platform. Meanwhile, over 95% use the online video platform YouTube.
Furthermore, online purchases from overseas suppliers increased by 34% in 2024, significantly higher than the 20% increase in the previous year, due to the penetration of Chinese e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress and Temu.
