The survey was carried out by children's charity Plan International Germany. Their findings were published in the German newspaper Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung.

A group of 1,000 men and 1,000 women aged 18-35 across Germany were asked to give their views for the study, which was conducted online.
34% of men in that age group admitted to having been violent with their female partners in the past, to “earn their respect”. 33% said they thought it was acceptable to occasionally “slip up” during an argument with their girlfriend.
The survey found that 50% of German men surveyed said they would not want to have sex with women who have had multiple partners, while only 20% of women interviewed agreed with this statement.
A German group called the Federal Equality Foundation wrote on Twitter that the findings were “shocking”.
“According to a survey by Plan International Germany, one third of young people find violence against women ‘acceptable’. This needs to change urgently!”
Karsten Kassner from the Federal Men's Forum, a group advocating gender equality, also called for change, saying: “It is a problem that a third of men surveyed consider physical violence against women to be normal.”
According to data from the German Federal Criminal Police (BKA), 115,000 women in Germany were victims of violence from an intimate partner in 2021.
Germany also has one of the highest rates of femicide in Europe, according to data from the BKA — a problem that has been exacerbated during the COVID pandemic.
