14 plays participating in the 2025 National Tuong and Folk Song Drama Festival

On November 15, information from the Department of Performing Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that the "National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival 2025" will take place from November 17 to 26 at Kim Ma Theater - Vietnam National Traditional Theater (No. 71 Kim Ma, Giang Vo Ward, Hanoi City).

The festival was chaired by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Department of Performing Arts, in coordination with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and relevant units, with the participation of nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 10 art units nationwide.

The representative of the Department of Performing Arts said that the Festival is an artistic activity of special significance, aiming to honor traditional artistic values imbued with national cultural identity, helping the audience understand and love Tuong and Folk Opera theater more - two typical art forms, rich in aesthetic values and philosophy of life of the Vietnamese people; Honoring artists, authors, directors, and units with outstanding contributions in preserving and creating traditional theatrical forms.

The “National Tuong and Folk Drama Festival 2025” is organized to arouse the love, passion and responsibility to preserve and promote traditional arts of generations of artists and actors, and to discover new creative factors in artistic work. This is also a forum for exchange, learning and sharing of artistic experiences between professional art units nationwide; an opportunity to propose innovative solutions for management, staging, performance and artist training methods, suitable for development requirements in the new period...

Through the Festival, art units have the opportunity to perform unique Tuong and folk opera plays with a contemporary feel, but still retain the traditional core, contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese stage with a strong national identity, aiming at the goal of developing culture for the people and arousing the aspiration for a prosperous and happy Vietnam. Affirming the value of the national intangible cultural heritage of Tuong (hat boi) and folk opera (folk opera melodies such as bai choi, Hue opera, etc.).

Participating in this Festival, art units across the country brought 14 plays, elaborately staged, deeply reflecting social life, praising the traditional history, homeland, country, and people of Vietnam, honoring moral and humanistic values and aspirations for goodness...

According to the Organizing Committee, the Festival is open to professional Tuong and Folk Opera art units, both public and private, across the country. Artists and actors participating in the Festival must be Vietnamese citizens, working professionally at art units that meet the regulations of the Organizing Committee.

The plays participating in the Festival must ensure clear ideological themes, not contrary to the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies; not insult leaders, national heroes, celebrities; not violate the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals; promote beauty, humanistic values, be predictive, have a positive impact on social life; contribute to building a well-rounded Vietnamese person, arouse the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country, promote the strength of Vietnamese culture and people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

According to the regulations, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will award noble prizes to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements, including: Outstanding Prize for plays and Outstanding Prize for performing artists; Gold Medals, Silver Medals for plays and artists meeting the artistic criteria according to the Judging Regulations; Outstanding Prizes for creative elements such as: Scriptwriters, directors, musicians, and designers.

The awards not only recognize artistic creative achievements but also encourage and honor the talent, passion and dedication of artists to Tuong and Folk Opera. The organizers hope that the "National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival 2025" will be a great festival of traditional Vietnamese theatrical arts, a place where the talents, passion and creative aspirations of artists from all over the country converge. At the same time, it is an occasion to honor national cultural values, contributing to preserving, spreading and promoting the quintessence of Tuong and Folk Opera, bringing traditional theater closer to the public.
