The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that in 2024, Europe warned 77 cases about pepper and spices imported from markets, a decrease of 2 cases compared to 2023.
Notably, Vietnam recorded the highest number of warnings with 21 cases, a 7-fold increase compared to 2023. Of which, chili is the product with the most warnings with 11 warnings, cinnamon has 7 warnings, pepper has 1 warning for Salmonella bacteria. After Vietnam is India with 16 cases, Indonesia has 8, China has 4...
Vietnamese spices imported into the US recorded 15 warnings, of which 6 cases were for cinnamon (3 times higher than 2 cases in 2023).
According to VPSA statistics, in 2024, Vietnam exported 250,600 tons of pepper of all kinds, reaching 1 billion 318.3 million USD, down 5.1% in volume and up 45.4% in turnover over the same period.
In 2024, Vietnam will be the country with the most warnings from Europe about imported spices, with the number of warnings seven times higher than in 2023.
VPSA said that in December 2024, Vietnam exported nearly 15,300 tons of pepper of all kinds. The total export turnover in December reached 100.6 million USD, compared to the previous month, the export volume decreased by 4.3% and the turnover decreased by 5.5%.
The US remained Vietnam's largest pepper export market in December 2024, accounting for 29.5%, reaching 4,509 tons, down 11.4% compared to November 2024.

Compared to 2023, export volume decreased by 5.1%, but export turnover increased sharply by 45.4%. The average export price of black pepper in 2024 reached 5,154 USD/ton, up 49.7% and white pepper reached 6,884 USD/ton, up 38.9% compared to last year.
In terms of markets, the US is Vietnam's largest pepper export market in 2024 with 72,311 tons, accounting for 28.9% and increasing by 33.2% compared to 2023. This is also the highest record export volume ever, up 21.0% compared to the previous record year of 2021, reaching 59,778 tons. Following the US are the markets: UAE, Germany, Netherlands, India.
In 2024, Vietnam exported 10,433 tons of chili - an increase of 2.6%; total export turnover reached 25.1 million USD; a sharp increase of 25.9% compared to 2023.
Meanwhile, cinnamon exports reached 99,874 tons, up 11.7%; total export turnover reached 274.5 million USD, up 5.2% compared to 2023. More than 14,000 tons of star anise were exported last year - down 5.7%; total export turnover reached 63.7 million USD - down 16.2% compared to 2023.
