Hoang Minh Quang, a student at Yen Lap High School ( Phu Tho ), said he and his parents went to Hanoi a day in advance to prepare for the interview round. "Last night I was so nervous and anxious that I couldn't sleep until 12am," Quang said.
To be considered for talent through reviewing records and interviews, Quang won second prize in biology in the Phu Tho province excellent student exam, and was an excellent student for three years in high school.
"When I entered the interview room, the teachers asked me to introduce myself, why I chose chemical engineering, what I planned to do when I went to this school, what my study plan was, my family and financial situation, and if I failed the major I applied for, what major would I choose? I answered honestly and the teachers nodded," Quang recounted.
Le Xuan Phuc Thang, Nguyen Van Cu High School ( Hai Duong ), said that before the interview round, he had won second prize for excellent physics students at the provincial level, and an IELTS certificate of 6.5.
"Before the interview, I was quite nervous, not knowing what the teachers would ask. However, when I actually entered the interview room, the questions were quite familiar," Phuc Thang said.

Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai, head of the admissions and career guidance department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that this year the school received 5,000 applications for talent recruitment, of which 400 were for direct recruitment, double last year's number.
Candidates applying for admission using international certificates SAT, ACT... is 1,600, nearly double compared to last year. Candidates applying for admission based on ability profile combined with interview are about 3,000 candidates, slightly decreased due to this year's change in achievement regulations, which are stricter.
For candidates who are selected for talent selection based on their profile and interview, Mr. Hai said that the interview questions do not test knowledge, but rather test presentation skills, social understanding and other knowledge beyond school knowledge. The questions are not tricky.
In previous years, the interview score accounted for 20%, plus the profile score when considering admission. However, this year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology does not calculate the interview score, but only evaluates pass or fail. The interview score is 20, candidates who score below 10 points are not passed.
Profile score includes 40% academic score, 50% achievement score, 10% bonus score.
On the same day, candidates for talent selection 1.1 (direct selection according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training) and 1.2 (recruitment based on international certificates) were also present at Hanoi University of Science and Technology to receive consultation, answers, and submit evidence for selection.
List of some high-achieving students who have registered for the talent entrance exam to Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 2025:
Candidates applying for talent exams with international certificates have increased dramatically.
According to Mr. Hai, this year the number of candidates applying for admission to schools with international certificates has increased dramatically, partly because the number of candidates taking international certificates is increasing.
Recently, some countries like the US have started to limit the number of international students, so the number of students applying to Hanoi University of Science and Technology with international certificates has increased.
