The most common point is tightening the entrance exam, increasing the role of the high school graduation exam, reducing or eliminating priority for international certificates, and at the same time strongly adjusting the admission combination according to the new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Political Officer School abolishes two traditional groups A00, C00

According to the latest announcement, the Political Officer School will stop recruiting according to the two groups A00 (Math - Physics - Chemistry) and C00 (Literature - History - Geography) from 2026. The school will switch to four new groups, all based on Math and Literature, including: C01: Literature - Math - Physics; C03: Literature - Math - History; C04: Literature - Math - Geography; D01: Literature - Math - English.

Explaining the change, the school said the new plan is in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , in which one of the two compulsory subjects is Math or Literature and the general subject ratio must reach 50%.

The school's benchmark score in 2025 is already high (26.82 - 27.83). Therefore, the change in combination is expected to continue to increase the level of competition in the 2026 admission season.

Nha Trang University: No consideration of academic records, no IELTS score addition

As one of the first schools to propose a different solution, Nha Trang University continues to affirm: No consideration of academic records. No priority points for IELTS certificates. Admission combinations are adjusted to ensure that both Math and Literature are included.

According to the school, not adding IELTS points is to avoid the gap in opportunities between candidates in the city and candidates in remote areas where conditions for learning foreign languages ​​are limited. In 2026, the school plans to recruit about 3,800 students for 71 training programs.

Methods include: Direct admission and priority admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; Admission based on the capacity assessment score of Ho Chi Minh City National University and the capacity assessment score of Hanoi National University in 2026; Admission based on high school graduation exam scores in 2026.

IELTS scores will be converted to equivalent: IELTS 5.0 is converted to 6 English points. Each subsequent 0.5 level corresponds to 1 more point. From IELTS 7.0 and above, candidates will be converted to 10 points.

Previously, some other schools also changed their admission methods in 2026, such as Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine announced compulsory Math scores in all admission combinations. Border Guard Academy stopped considering combinations C00 and A01 (Math, Physics, English), only using three combinations C03, C04 and D01.
