Initial information, on the afternoon of June 26, a group of 5 students invited each other to Dong Coi sluice, Lac Dien village, Phuoc Thang commune, Tuy Phuoc district to swim. At that time, the tide was receding so Dong Coi sluice opened, water flowed strongly into Thi Nai lagoon, 3 students from An Loi village, Phuoc Thang commune fell into the whirlpool and could not escape, leading to drowning.
The other two children saw this and immediately ran to a nearby hamlet to call for help. When people arrived to help, it was too late. They only recovered the bodies of Tran Cong S (born in 2011, 8th grader), and Tran Nguyen The V (born in 2010, 9th grader), both students at Phuoc Thang Secondary School. The body of Nguyen Dao Thanh H (born in 2009, 10th grader) was not found until 6:30 p.m. the same day.
