3 children drowned while swimming with their grandfather

On the afternoon of June 11, speaking with Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Dinh Phuong, Chairman of Hai Ninh Ward People's Committee, Nghi Son Town, Thanh Hoa Province, said that the authorities had found the bodies of three children who drowned while swimming in the sea in the ward.

According to initial information, the incident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on June 11, at Hai Ninh beach (Hai Ninh ward, Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province).

According to Mr. Phuong, the three deceased children lived in Thanh Thuy commune (Nghi Son town) and Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa province. Before the incident, the grandfather (in Thanh Thuy commune) led four children (all grandchildren, one born in 2009, two born in 2011 and one still young).

"While the three older children were bathing, the grandfather stayed on the shore, then took the youngest child home. When he turned around, the children had been swept away by the water. The children were on summer vacation with their grandfather, including one child from Nong Cong district who had just returned from the South. Currently, the authorities have handed over the children's bodies to their families for funeral arrangements," Mr. Phuong informed.

According to Mr. Phuong, immediately after the incident, organizations, the Department of Education and Training of Nghi Son town and the ward government promptly visited, encouraged and shared the loss with the families of the children.
