30 households in Quang Ngai live in a situation of "unstable electricity"

More than 30 households in Go Rach and Ka La groups (Ba Dong commune, Quang Ngai province) are living in a situation where they have electricity but cannot use it, the electricity is weak and unstable, affecting their lives and family activities.

The project to provide electricity for Go Rach and Ka La groups, Lang Teng village, was implemented in 2022 by the People's Committee of Ba Thanh commune (former Ba To district). The project has a total capital of more than 1.2 billion VND, from the capital source of the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the period 2021-2025.

Many people expressed their frustration that the project was completed, the power poles and power lines were already stretched to their homes, but they still had no electricity. The cause of this delay was determined to be due to problems with compensation for land clearance.

To have electricity, people have to pull the electricity themselves in a temporary way. According to observations, the road from the main electricity pole to the houses of households in Go Rach is only 1.2-1.5m long, but there are dozens of electrical wires connected roughly, tangled on acacia trees, bamboo trees... posing a risk of electrical safety.

Ms. Pham Thi Gam (Go Rach group, Lang Teng village) said: "When I saw that the village had electricity, I bought a TV for nearly 5 million VND, but it broke down 3 times, and each time the repair cost almost as much as buying a new one. The technician told me that even if I repaired the TV, it would still break because the electricity was weak and unstable."

The electricity was temporarily connected, so the appliances in Mrs. Gam's house such as the TV, electric fan, and lights worked intermittently, almost useless. To cook rice, Mrs. Gam had to start cooking at 3 p.m., but many times the rice would not cook because the electricity was weak. Mrs. Gam still used a wood stove to cook.

Temporary electrical wiring often causes damage to household appliances, posing a risk of fire and explosion.

Mr. Pham Van Lam, Head of Lang Teng Village, said: “Both Go Rach and Ka La groups have poles and power lines but they have not yet been connected to the grid. People still pull electricity from afar to use. The authorities explained that it was due to problems in compensation and site clearance.”

Mr. Pham Van Son (Go Rach group, Lang Teng village) said: "Even though I brought electricity to my house myself, I still invested in 1.3km of power lines, and every month I pay about 400,000 - 500,000 VND for electricity, but even the water motor cannot run."

Mr. Nguyen Van Sinh, Chairman of Ba Dong Commune People's Committee, said that this situation has existed since the area was part of the old Ba Thanh Commune. He affirmed: "I will soon work with relevant units, urgently provide documents and clearly report the current situation and the reasons for not having electricity to promptly resolve and complete the project."
