Accordingly, 12 member schools of Hanoi National University agreed on a common conversion method.
The school accepts IELTS 5.5 or higher and counts 8.5 points for English at this level. Candidates with IELTS 6.0 are counted as 9 points, IELTS 6.5 is counted as 9.5 points and IELTS 7.0 or higher is counted as 10 points.
Among the top universities, Hanoi University of Science and Technology prioritizes international English certificates the most, with 6.5 IELTS being counted as 10 points.
National Economics University calculates 10 points for IELTS from 7.5. Foreign Trade University calculates 10 points for IELTS from 8.0. Meanwhile, IELTS from 8.5 is converted to 10 points at Diplomatic Academy.
In particular, the University of Commerce calculates 10 points for IELTS from 5.0.
There are two schools that accept IELTS certificates below 5.0: Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Hanoi Capital University.
In addition to converting IELTS scores to English test scores, many schools implement a bonus point policy for candidates with international English certificates.
The Academy of Journalism and Communication adds a maximum of 0.5 points for candidates with IELTS 7.0 or higher, admission is based on academic records.
National Economics University adds 0.75 points to all candidates with IELTS from 5.5 when applying to the school under the combined admission method.
Hanoi University of Culture also "generously" gives extra points to candidates with IELTS. In particular, IELTS from 4.0-4.5 gets 1 extra point; IELTS 5.0 gets 2 extra points; IELTS 5.5-6.0 gets 2.5 extra points; IELTS from 6.5 and above gets 3 extra points.
3 points is also the maximum bonus points that schools are allowed to add to candidates if the admission score is 30. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the bonus points cannot exceed 10% of the admission score.

In nearly a month, the 2025 high school graduation exam will take place. Candidates will officially take the exam on June 26-27. Candidates taking the exam according to the 2018 general education program will only take 4 subjects including compulsory math, literature and 2 elective subjects from the subjects they studied in high school: Physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, economic education and law, technology - agriculture, technology - industry, information technology and foreign languages.
