5 foods that the more you use, the faster your kidneys will deteriorate

(Dan Tri) - Seemingly harmless foods such as soft drinks, sausages, pickles... if used regularly can become silent destroyers of your blood filtering organ.

Some familiar dishes in daily meals seem harmless but are a "silent burden" for the kidneys.

If consumed regularly, these foods can gradually weaken the kidneys over time, increasing the risk of dangerous diseases such as nephritis, kidney stones, and even kidney failure.

Kidney - small organ but plays a big role

The kidney is an organ the size of a fist, but it performs many essential functions such as filtering blood, eliminating toxins, balancing water and electrolytes, producing hormones that regulate blood pressure and supporting red blood cell production. However, the kidney is also an organ that can easily be "overloaded" if the diet is not reasonable.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, most chronic kidney diseases have no obvious symptoms in the early stages. This makes people unaware that what they eat every day can silently impair kidney function.

Below are 5 common food groups that, if abused, will weaken the kidneys:

1. Soft drinks

Dark-colored soft drinks and energy drinks may contain phosphorus as an additive, which enhances flavor and extends shelf life.

According to the Times of India, this type of phosphorus is more easily absorbed than natural phosphorus in food, thereby rapidly increasing blood phosphorus levels - a major risk factor for people with kidney disease.

A study in the Journal of Renal Nutrition found that high dietary phosphorus intake was associated with accelerated decline in kidney function in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Recommendation: People at risk of kidney disease should avoid soft drinks and replace them with water, fresh fruit juices or unsweetened herbal teas.

2. Processed foods

Instant noodles, sausages, potato chips, packaged candy... are all in the group of ultra-processed foods, containing a lot of sodium, saturated fat, added sugar and additives, putting a great burden on the excretory system.

Research published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases shows that people who eat a lot of processed foods have a 24% higher risk of kidney disease than those who rarely consume this group.

Tip: Prioritize fresh, whole foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Always read nutrition labels to control sodium and additives intake.

3. Red meat

Red meat such as beef, lamb, pork... is a rich source of protein. However, when consumed in excess, the body will produce a lot of waste such as urea and creatinine, forcing the kidneys to work hard to eliminate them.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) warns: A diet too rich in animal protein can accelerate the progression of chronic kidney disease, especially in the elderly or those with risk factors.

Alternative: Switch to easily digestible proteins such as beans, peas, fish, low-fat yogurt, etc. to reduce the load on the kidneys while still ensuring adequate nutrition.

4. Animal organs

Limit the frequency of eating organ meats, especially if you have a history of kidney stones, gout or a family history of kidney disease (Photo: Getty).

Liver, kidney, intestines, brain… contain a lot of purine, a substance that will break down into uric acid in the blood. When uric acid increases, it can easily form kidney stones or cause gout, especially in people with weak kidney function.

According to the Mayo Clinic, reducing purines in the diet is an important step in controlling uric acid and preventing kidney damage.

Note: Limit the frequency of eating offal dishes, especially if you have a history of kidney stones, gout or a family history of kidney disease.

5. Pickles

Pickles, salted eggplants, and kimchi are favorite dishes of many families. However, they contain high levels of sodium - one of the dangerous "enemies" of the kidneys.

Research from Every Well Health shows that excess sodium causes the body to retain water, increases blood pressure, and damages the kidneys over time. Especially in people with impaired kidney function, eating salty foods can cause electrolyte imbalances, leading to cardiovascular complications.

Suggestion: Reduce the amount of pickles in your diet and replace them with boiled vegetables, low-salt salads or fresh fruits and vegetables.
