Quang Tri Five female students were suspended from school for 7 to 21 days for beating and tearing the clothes of a classmate in the school restroom nearly two weeks ago.
On the afternoon of May 5, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thong, Deputy Head of the Departmentof Education and Training of Gio Linh district, said that 4 female students in grade 8 of Gio Linh secondary school were suspended from school from May 4. Of these, the female student with the longest suspension of 21 days will have to stay home until the end of the school year.
"Students are required to practice during the summer to return to school in the new school year," said Mr. Thong.
A 10th grade female student at the Gio Linh District Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center was also suspended for two weeks for participating in the beating. Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Dung, Deputy Director of the Center, said that this form of discipline is only temporary.
"The school will continue to handle this student after receiving a full report from Gio Linh district police," said Ms. Dung.
In addition, schools with students involved in the fight also held disciplinary meetings to consider the responsibility of homeroom teachers and administrators. Gio Linh District Police are collecting documents and evidence to handle according to the law.
Meanwhile, the female student who was beaten by her friend is currently mentally unstable, so her family has not agreed to let her work with the authorities.

Previously, on the afternoon of April 24, after the second period, a female student of class 8E went to a coffee shop near the school, waiting for the 4th and 5th periods to study IT, then met a group of friends in the same grade and two students from Gio Linh Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center.
Due to a previous conflict on social media, these students dragged each other into the school's restroom and fought.
In the 6-minute video that has been circulating online, the group of students forced the 8E female student to kneel, took turns pulling her hair back, cursing her, slapping her, kicking her, and even hitting her in the face with a helmet. At one point, the female student was allowed to stand up but continued to be beaten.
Then, about 3-4 students pushed the female student to the floor, beat her and stripped her off. Many other students stood around cheering, filming and posting videos online.
The latest statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training in 2019 showed that there were nearly 1,600 student fights nationwide a year, or about 5 cases a day. For every 5,200 students, there was one fight, and for every 9 schools, there was one student fight.
Since the beginning of the new school year, female students fighting has occurred continuously in many localities such as Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Vinh Long... The common point is that the students were beaten and videotaped in front of many friends but no one intervened.
In known cases, most students who beat their friends were suspended from school for 2-4 weeks, with only one 10th grade female student in Ha Tinh being prosecuted for humiliating others.
According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, disciplinary action for students who violate the law currently includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.
