On the morning of May 19, the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine held a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the academy's founding (2005–2025) and the 55th anniversary of the tradition of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine (1969–2025).
From its predecessor, Tue Tinh Traditional Medicine High School, established in 1969, with the continuous efforts of generations of teachers and students of the school, in 2005, the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine was established under Decision No. 30/2005/QD-TTg dated February 2, 2005 of the Prime Minister .
Attending the program were comrades: Pham Gia Khiem, former member of the Politburo , former Deputy Prime Minister; Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long; Ha Vi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Vietnam; comrades leading central and local ministries, departments and branches; leaders and former leaders of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine through the periods; international delegations; representatives of health departments, hospitals, research institutes, universities; generations of teachers, students and trainees in the entire academy.
Important contribution to the construction and development of traditional medicine human resources
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that with its inherent potential and advantages, developing traditional medicine into a strong science in our country is a correct, important and urgent direction, not only contributing to caring for and protecting people's health, but also contributing to economic growth, promoting Vietnamese culture and national identity to the world.

Over the past years, the Party, State and Government have always paid attention to, issued and effectively implemented many policies, guidelines, mechanisms and policies to preserve, develop and promote the value of Vietnamese traditional medicine. The system of policies and laws on traditional medicine has been constantly improved. State management, examination and treatment with traditional medicine, cultivation, processing and use of medicinal herbs, scientific research and international cooperation in the field of traditional medicine have received attention and investment.
Unique and specialized traditional medical examination and treatment techniques, non-drug diagnostic and treatment methods, traditional medicine prescriptions and ingredients are researched and developed. The Vietnam Oriental Medicine Association at all levels is strengthened and operates actively and effectively.
Up to now, the country has 14 units training human resources in traditional medicine and pharmacy at university level, including the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long congratulated the academy for its solidarity, efforts and proud achievements. As the first university of traditional medicine in Vietnam, through many ups and downs, the academy has grown steadily, becoming a prestigious center for high-quality training, inheriting and promoting the quintessence of traditional medicine, while selectively absorbing the achievements of modern medicine.
"The academy's training activities have made a very important contribution to the building and development of traditional medicine staff with nearly 11,000 medical staff with university and postgraduate degrees, accounting for over 50% of traditional medicine human resources nationwide.
The Academy has effectively implemented many scientific research cooperation activities with prestigious training and scientific research institutions and universities in China; cooperated in training, scientific research and medical examination and treatment with many partners in Europe and Asia such as Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Sweden, South Korea, Japan...", Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long shared.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the academy to uphold the spirit of solidarity and creativity, build a clean and strong academy party committee; enhance governance capacity, operate effectively and efficiently; improve teaching and learning conditions; have appropriate incentive mechanisms and policies to effectively promote the capacity of the academy's staff, lecturers, experts and scientists.

"The Academy focuses on training high-quality human resources, providing human resources for the development of the country's traditional medicine. Innovating thinking in training, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine. Paying attention to and having a special mechanism to train a team of lecturers who are "deep in medical theory - good at medical skills - rich in medical ethics" to meet the tasks in the new development stage", Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said.
Within the framework of the Anniversary Ceremony, the Academy also organized a series of important events taking place from May 13-18, 2025 to honor the great contributions of the field of traditional medicine to the country's medicine, including: The inauguration ceremony of the traditional room and exhibition of the quintessence of traditional medicine; a series of scientific seminars organized with the participation of many leading experts in the field of traditional medicine from Vietnam and many different countries around the world; meeting generations of former staff, lecturers and students of the Academy.
Continuously improve training quality
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, said that by the 2024-2025 school year, the school's training scale will reach 6,203 students, including nearly 6,000 undergraduate students and more than 700 graduate students.

The Academy trains 3 undergraduate majors: Traditional Medicine, Medicine, Pharmacy and an international joint program in traditional medicine with Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China). Postgraduate majors are strongly expanded, including: PhD, Master, resident physician, specialist I, specialist II in traditional medicine, specialist I in Acupuncture and traditional medicinal herbs and pharmacy.
By 2025, the academy has trained nearly 11,000 medical staff at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The employment rate of graduates is always above 95%.
Not only training, scientific research has also developed remarkably. In the period 2005-2025, the academy has implemented: 2 state-level topics; 8 ministerial-level topics and projects; more than 500 grassroots topics; published more than 600 domestic articles, more than 80 international articles, organized nearly 120 seminars; reviewed 46 textbooks and reference books.
Topics such as: Tue Tinh Stomach, Bo Khi Thong Mach, Linh Phu Khang, Moc Ty Vi... have been applied in practice, contributing to affirming the role of traditional medicine in community health care.

International cooperation activities have also made many impressions. The Academy has signed training and scientific research agreements with many major universities: Beijing, Nanjing, Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China); USF University of California (USA), facilities in Japan, Korea, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Ukraine, etc.
The Academy has been honored to receive many noble awards, such as the First Class Labor Medal, Second Class Labor Medal, 2 Third Class Labor Medals, the Government's Emulation Flag, the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit and many other noble awards.
55 years of establishment and development, from Tue Tinh School of Traditional Medicine to Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine today is a journey of overcoming difficulties and rising up, nurtured by the passion, intelligence and dedication of generations of leaders, lecturers, staff, students. With a solid foundation and clear strategic orientation, the academy continues to affirm its role as the leading training-research-medical examination and treatment center in the country, ready to integrate internationally and bring Vietnamese traditional medicine far and wide.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy affirmed that the academy will continue to adhere to the goal of developing into a scientific research facility, an applied-oriented university education, with an advanced management system, meeting educational quality standards and ranking high among universities training in the field of traditional medicine in the region.
