Speaking at the Vietnam Digital Industry and Trade Summit 2023, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan cited the latest report from Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, saying that Vietnam continues to be the country with the fastest digital economic growth rate in Southeast Asia for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023) and is forecast to continue to hold this position in 2025 (equal to the Philippines).
Vietnam's gross merchandise value (GMV) is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20%, from US$30 billion in 2023 to nearly US$45 billion in 2025. In particular, GMV growth in the next 2 years of Vietnam's digital economy is forecast to be led by the e-commerce sector.
According to Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Vietnam's e-commerce will still maintain a growth rate of 20% in 2022. It can be seen that over the past years, Vietnam's e-commerce has always maintained a growth rate of 16-30%, expected to reach 20.5 billion USD this year.
“In 2023 and the following years, with such strong growth momentum, Vietnam's e-commerce market and digital economy will develop even more strongly and create momentum for economic development,” Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized.
