Don't skip breakfast
Nutritionists have previously said that eating a nutritionally balanced meal or snack in the morning can help prevent blood sugar spikes and dips throughout the day.
Additionally, reporter Julia Naftulin found that eating a little something with your morning coffee helps prevent the side effects of caffeine.
“I find my energy and mood are much more stable when I pair my coffee with Babybel cheese, toast, or banana with peanut butter,” she says.
Naftulin's suggestions also help to balance nutrients like protein, fiber, carbs and healthy fats.
Diversify drinking water
Staying hydrated is important for overall health, helping to maintain brain health, healthy skin, and good digestion. Editor Leah Rosenbaum shares her tips for meeting her hydration goal this year, even though she "hates boring plain water."
“I bought a water bottle with a built-in straw and tried to make my water drinking more fun, by adding tart cherry juice, kombucha, lemon, etc.,” she says.
Having a list of fun drinks can also help you cut back on sugary drinks like soda — which can pose health risks if consumed in excess on a regular basis.
Breakfast with oatmeal
Oatmeal is the perfect breakfast food that you can eat any time of day. According to editor Mia de Graaf, starting your morning with a bowl of oatmeal can help prevent digestive issues.
Oats are also a good alternative to other breakfast carbs, as they are high in fiber and contain a little protein. Oats can also be used in delicious recipes, with additions such as fruits, nuts, etc.
Additionally, replacing your morning cereal and toast with oatmeal can help you feel fuller longer, reduce your need for snacking, and help you lose weight. Mia also recommends eating oatmeal for breakfast for those who struggle with cravings, bloating, or digestive issues.

Eat canned fish
Seafood is an incredibly nutritious food, providing lean protein and healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids. Canned seafood, such as sardines, mackerel and oysters, is delicious straight out of the can or added to other foods like toast, salads, beans and even pasta.
Canned seafood now comes in new flavors and varieties, so those concerned about taste can find something to their liking. Just be careful not to eat too much, as you may be exposed to certain toxins.
Grilled vegetables
Different vegetables contain different nutrients, which is why many nutritionists recommend "eating the rainbow" to get a variety of essential vitamins and minerals.

"Roast vegetables with olive oil, salt and pepper. I've never had a vegetable that didn't taste good that way," she says.

Eat lots of delicious fruit
Reporter Hilary Brueck has found a way to satisfy her sweet tooth without eating too many sweets. It's fruit.
Fruits are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and important plant nutrients called phytochemicals. Berries, pineapples, mangoes, cherries, etc. may not be cheap, but they are some of the healthiest fruits and are well worth the extra money.
“I started comparing the price of fruit to candy bars. If the fruit I wanted seemed to be about the same price as a candy bar or an ice cream cone, I was willing to buy it,” she says.
Thanks to this, Brueck has eaten more berries, pineapple, mango and less junk food this year.
