After the Dien Bien Phu victory and the signing of the Geneva Agreement, our country was temporarily divided into two regions, the South and the North. In response to the requirements of the task of protecting the socialist North, on November 19, 1958, the Central Committee issued Resolution No. 58-NQ/TW on the organization of "Building the internal security and border guard forces".
Then, on March 3, 1959, the Prime Minister signed Decree No. 100/TTg to merge police and army units on duty on border lines, coasts, border lines and to protect domestic targets into a unified, tightly organized force from the Central to the grassroots level, called the People's Armed Police.

Currently, to proactively deal with all situations occurring at the border and sea, many new professional measures and training programs have been directed by the Border Guard Command to schools and units to apply according to the motto "Basic, practical, solid".
The border guards have highly promoted their creativity and self-reliance; skillfully used existing weapons and equipment, combined with professional skills and revolutionary will; were good at techniques and tactics, had a firm grasp of the law, were knowledgeable about the customs and practices of the people, and were proficient in border guard operations. The entire force always ensured high combat readiness, promptly handled situations, especially effectively responded to non-traditional security challenges.
