Hanoi establishes centralized pig slaughterhouse

On August 6, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment, together with relevant departments and branches, to urgently study and propose the establishment of a centralized pig slaughterhouse (temporarily controlled by specialized staff and coordinated by local authorities), to ensure a safe food supply for the market.

Along with that, functional departments and branches coordinate with local authorities to review and guide herd restoration, thereby perfecting the planning of concentrated livestock farms far from residential areas and having mechanisms to encourage people and businesses to invest in closed-farm livestock models and bio-safe livestock farming.

Localities, based on the actual situation, should carry out well the work of disease prevention and control, and destroy infected pigs. The Department of Agriculture and Environment needs to provide specific instructions to localities on disease prevention in livestock and poultry farming; the Department of Culture and Information should strengthen extensive propaganda to raise awareness and responsibility of people and farming households about the risk of disease spread, the significance of declaring and handling outbreaks according to regulations. Currently, African swine fever has occurred in 23 communes and 155 villages in Hanoi with 490 farming households affected. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed is 10,592, with a destroyed weight of more than 662,690 kg.
