Carlos Alcaraz continued to assert his strength on clay when defeating Jannik Sinner 2-0 (7-6, 6-1) in the final of the Rome Masters 2025, thereby winning his second ATP 1000 title of the year and the third time lifting the trophy this season (after Rotterdam and Monte Carlo).

This is the title that Alcaraz follows in the footsteps of Spanish players such as Manuel Orantes, Emilio Sánchez Vicario, Alex Corretja, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Felix Mantilla, Carlos Moya and Rafael Nadal who have won the title since 1970. This is also Alcaraz's fourth consecutive victory over Sinner, helping him equal the Italian player's record of 19 ATP titles.

In this match, both players did not start smoothly but still held their serve games, bringing the first set into a tie-break. Alcaraz, with better composure in the match, won 7-5.

In the second set, the Spaniard exploded with accurate serves and tricky drop shots. He completely overwhelmed Sinner and ended the match with a 6-1 victory, demonstrating his superiority on clay.

The tournament marked Sinner’s return after a three-month suspension, and the world No. 1 was expected to shine in front of a home crowd at Campo Centrale in the final. However, the enthusiastic cheers and bustling entrances could not help Sinner turn the situation around.

For Sinner, his 26-fight winning streak (which began after the loss to Carlos in Beijing, China) came to an end when he lost to his biggest rival for the fourth time in a row. This is also not the first time Alcaraz has done this.

The Spaniard broke Sinner's three longest winning streaks in his career. Specifically, a 19-match winning streak in March 2024; Jannik's 26-match winning streak and 24-set winning streak against top 10 players in this match.

Alcaraz expressed when receiving the championship

“All eyes are on Paris right now,” Alcaraz said after his fourth win over Sinner. “Everyone is focused on that tournament. Beating Jannik, winning in Rome… those two things together give you a lot of confidence going into Paris.

I always say that the final is not about playing the final, it's about winning. I'm really happy and will enjoy this moment with my family, my team and my friends from back home. Taking a few days off just to realise what I've achieved is important before focusing on Roland Garros."

With this victory, Alcaraz became the fifth player in history to complete Masters 1000 titles on clay, after Marcelo Rios, Gustavo Kuerten, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
