Once again, the argument that every player who leaves United becomes better, and more successful, is true. Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku, who bowed out of Old Trafford, are now humming along at Napoli, having become heroes in their fourth Serie A title triumph.
Before round 38, Napoli were only 1 point ahead of Inter and had to beat Cagliari, while hoping Inter would stumble in Como. However, Simone Inzaghi's team took the lead after just 21 minutes, then entered the second half with an advantage of one man. This created a lot of pressure on coach Antonio Conte and his team, especially when the away team Cagliari played extremely disciplined and solidly.
Luckily, they had McTominay in their team. In the 42nd minute, Matteo Politano crossed from the right and the Scottish midfielder dived to perform a spectacular scissor kick to open the scoring. As the nerves eased, Napoli's spirits rose and another hero emerged. In the 51st minute, Lukaku met a long ball and calmly finished to seal a 2-0 win.

Scott McTominay's scissor kick opened the scoring for Napoli as they won the 2024/25 Serie A title. |
The season officially ended and Napoli finished with 82 points, one more than Inter. The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium exploded. Inside and outside, flares and fireworks were lit up, welcoming the 4th scudetto in the club's history.
McTominay won his first trophy since leaving Manchester United last summer. Not only that, the 28-year-old midfielder was also named Serie A Player of the Season for 2024/25. He played a crucial role in Napoli's title win, scoring 12 goals and providing 6 assists in 34 games.
Napoli got a bargain deal when they only spent 25 million pounds to own McTominay from MU. Meanwhile, in Manchester, the Scottish star's old team is sinking into darkness, with a trophyless season and the lowest position in the history of participating in the Premier League.
