NDO - To protect the peace of the country's border areas, in addition to regular and periodic border marker inspection trips, the Quang Binh Border Guard Command coordinated with the border protection force of Khammouane province (Laos) to organize bilateral patrols on the border and inspect border markers on both sides.

During the bilateral patrol mission from mid-March to the end of April, despite the extremely hot weather and difficult terrain, officers and soldiers of the Cha Lo International Border Gate Border Guard Station, Quang Binh Border Guard and Border Guard Companies 311 and 312, Khammouane Provincial Military Command overcame difficulties and successfully completed the task of protecting the national sovereignty and border security.

The march to the border was very dangerous, many stages had to cross steep, rocky mountains.

There were sections where Quang Binh Border Guards had to use ropes wrapped around tree roots and large rocks to swing themselves up.

The march was so difficult, but the officers and soldiers were optimistic, the front helped the back overcome difficulties to cross the steep, rocky slope to reach the national border marker.

After half a day of marching, officers and soldiers protecting the border of Quang Binh and Khammouane provinces stopped to rest under a giant rock that stretched out to cover a large space on the Giang Man mountain range.

The common meal of officers and soldiers of the two units in the middle of the Truong Son mountain range is imbued with the special friendship and close bond between Vietnam and Laos.

Taking advantage of a break, Major Tran Xuan Hanh, a medical officer at the Cha Lo International Border Post, massaged the leg of a comrade who had become swollen during a long and arduous march.

After a long march in harsh weather and climate conditions, the border protection forces of the two provinces of Vietnam and Laos reached landmark number 522 located at the highest position on the top of Giang Man mountain, nearly 2,000m above sea level. After carefully checking the border markings and the safety of landmark number 522, the commander of the working group of Cha Lo International Border Gate Border Guard Station (Quang Binh) and Border Guard Companies 311 and 312 (Khammouane) signed the minutes right at the scene.

They used the tools they brought with them and cut tree trunks to clean the four sides of the border marker. Although it has been 13 years since it was erected with granite, the national border marker 522 still stands tall on the Truong Son mountain range and shines with the color of time, evoking many sacred emotions in each officer and soldier of the Quang Binh Border Guard.

Quang Binh Border Guards set up a tent and a makeshift kitchen to cook a meal right on the top of Giang Man and invited officers and soldiers of the neighboring country to eat together. The meal, though simple, was imbued with the special affection and friendship between the border guards of the two provinces of Vietnam and Laos.

At the moment of saying goodbye to the border marker, the border protection forces of the two provinces held a salute ceremony to march back to their units, ending the bilateral patrol that brought high results and at the same time demonstrated the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
