The tropical depression forming in the South China Sea is forecast to move closer to the mainland of the South Central region, causing heavy rain in the Central and South Central regions, the Central Highlands and the Southeast.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1:00 a.m. on December 22, the center of the tropical depression was located in the southern sea of the South China Sea. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 8.
During the day and tonight (December 22), the tropical depression will move northeast, then turn northwest at a fairly slow speed of about 10km/h and maintain its intensity.
On December 23, the tropical depression showed signs of strengthening, moving steadily in a northwest direction, about 10km per hour. At 1am on December 24, the center of the tropical depression was in the southern area of Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago with a strong intensity of level 7, gusting to level 9.
On December 24-25, the tropical depression accelerated, approaching the South Central and Southern seas.
Due to the influence of the tropical depression, from the night of December 23 to December 26, the Central and South Central regions will have moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 100-300mm, locally over 500mm. From December 24 to December 25, the Eastern Central Highlands will have moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 60-120mm, locally over 200mm. The Southeast region will also have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms on December 24-25, locally heavy rain.
The southern sea area of the South China Sea has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8, waves of 3-5m high, and rough seas. From the night of December 22, the southern sea area of the Truong Sa archipelago has strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 8-9, waves of 4-6m high, and rough seas.
The coastal provinces of the South Central region need to closely monitor the development of the tropical depression and proactively deploy measures to prevent heavy rain, strong winds, flooding and flash floods. People need to regularly update weather forecast information to have timely response measures.
