Apple kicked off its WWDC 2024 developer event, which kicked off at midnight on June 11, with the company announcing a slew of new features for its computers, smartphones, tablets, and wearables. But many savvy users have noticed that some of these features, AI-powered or not, have long been available on Galaxy devices.

Below are a series of new features officially announced by Apple on iOS 18:
iMessage is more interactive
iOS 18 will let users respond to a message with any emoji or sticker. This update brings iMessage closer to other messaging platforms like Google Chat, Slack, or WhatsApp. It also lets you schedule messages to be sent in advance.
Redesign the interface for the Photos app
As announced by Apple at WWDC 2024, iOS 18 will feature a completely redesigned version of the Photos app. Instead of multiple interfaces, the app will now display as a single view, including a photo grid and a date grid. This makes searching for images easier and more intuitive. In addition, users can also filter photos by specific categories such as screenshots, selfies, etc.
Advanced photo editing
Using the power of AI, you can remove unwanted objects and subjects from photos on your Galaxy smartphones and tablets. A similar feature was just introduced by Apple at WWDC 2024.
Change app icon color
Apple introduced major customization features with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Users can change the color of app icons to their liking. This feature has been available on Samsung phones and tablets as "Palette" for several years.
Application Security
Apple is offering new ways to improve app privacy with iOS 18, one of which is allowing users to add apps to a locked folder to prevent others from viewing them.
Customers using iOS 18 will use Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode to access certain apps. Information from within the app will also be hidden from other parts of the system, like search, notifications, or call history.
Home screen with blank space
This is one of the most basic features available on Android phones and tablets from Samsung and other brands. Apple introduced it this year. With iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, users can arrange app icons as they like, leaving any empty space on the screen.
Safari
Safari makes it easier to explore information on the web with Highlights and a redesigned Reader experience. Using machine learning, Safari can surface key information about a web page. For example, users can see a summary to get the most important information from an article; quickly see the location of a restaurant, hotel, or landmark; or listen to an artist's song right in an article about that song or album.
Check text and suggest tone
Using the power of large language models (LLM), Apple introduced spell checking for documents, emails, notes, and text messages. It also introduced writing style suggestions with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
Samsung introduced a similar feature to Galaxy phones and tablets earlier this year with One UI 6.1. It's available on most high-end Galaxy devices released a few years ago.
New Features on Wallet App
Apple announced iOS 18 at WWDC 2024 with notable improvements to the Wallet app in iOS 18. The new “Tap to Pay” feature will make sending money to friends and making small payments easier than ever. Users simply tap their iPhones together and confirm the transaction using Face ID or Touch ID. The feature uses near-field communication (NFC) to make secure and fast transfers.
Additionally, the event ticket interface in Wallet has been redesigned with a more dynamic interface. You can now easily view ticket details, including seat locations, entry times, and venue maps.
Integrate reminders with Calendar
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 can now display reminders created in the Reminders app inside the default Calendar app. This feature was introduced by Samsung on Galaxy phones and tablets with the One UI 6.0 update.
Summary of web article
With One UI 6.1, Samsung has brought the ability to summarize articles and websites through the Samsung Internet web browser. The same feature is now available in the Safari browser on Apple devices running iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
