Apple is TSMC's biggest customer, placing huge orders for silicon wafers for iPhones and Macs. In 2023, the iPhone maker also bought TSMC's entire supply of 3nm chips, giving the US tech giant a monopoly on the technology before any competitors.

According to DigiTimes, Apple will be the first company to use chips manufactured by TSMC using the 2nm process, expected to take place in late 2025. The new chip manufacturing process, with Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor technology, will be officially deployed at TSMC's new 2nm standard manufacturing facilities.
Samsung Foundry has previously used GAA technology on its 3nm chips, but TSMC will only use this new technology on its 2nm chip manufacturing process. To serve the transition to the 2nm chip standard, TSMC is building two new chip manufacturing plants and is also applying for a license to build a third.
After the 2nm chip manufacturing process, TSMC is expected to develop and launch new chip manufacturing technology of 1.4nm or higher from 2027. Apple is planning to start accumulating spare production capacity in the first year when 1.4nm and 1nm chip technologies are launched.
Apple will also continue to be TSMC’s largest customer and is expected to benefit from lower prices on its purchases, with each 12-inch silicon wafer used to produce 2nm chips expected to cost as much as $25,000 by 2025.
