Rejecting China's unilateral fishing ban

According to Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, China's unilateral fishing ban is invalid.

Vietnamese vessels have the right to fish in Vietnamese waters.

On May 8, according to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the ministry sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities regarding China's unilateral imposition of a fishing ban in the East Sea from 12:00 on May 1 to 12:00 on August 16, 2025, including part of the Gulf of Tonkin.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment affirmed that this ban has violated Vietnam's sovereignty , sovereign rights, jurisdiction and interests, and is completely invalid.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requested localities to inform fishermen and encourage them to continue to fish at sea and produce normally within Vietnam's waters, organize into groups and teams to support each other, raise vigilance and promptly report any violations by foreign fishing vessels.

Localities are required to strengthen monitoring of fishing vessel activities through the VMS system, strictly control entry and exit from ports and strictly implement instructions on fishing vessel management.
