Tri Ton is a mountainous, border district with a large Khmer ethnic population. The district's population is over 137,400, with nearly 16,300 elderly people (accounting for 12%). Of these, there are 11,890 elderly members, active in 249 branches and groups.
In recent times, the district's senior association at all levels has focused on mobilizing members and the elderly to participate in political tasks and local socio-economic development. In particular, every year, the district association and its grassroots associations launch the patriotic emulation movement "Old age - bright example" to promote the role of the elderly in various fields. Especially in the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" associated with "Building new rural areas, civilized urban areas" and "Studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh".
From the movement, many typical examples have emerged, contributing their efforts and money to build and develop their homeland. A typical example is the family of Mr. Phan Van Duc (Nui To commune). In the locality, Mr. Duc is always exemplary, strictly following the law and policies, building a family of "Exemplary grandparents, filial children". Mr. Duc himself and the Nui To commune Charity House Building Team have mobilized and contributed to building 2 new traffic bridges on canals 1 and 2 with a total amount of 167 million VND; building 47 new houses of love; supporting 625 free medical transport vehicles for the poor...
Elderly people in Tri Ton district have many contributions to socio -economic development, national defense and security.
In the period of 2021 - 2025, the Association of the Elderly of communes and towns coordinated with associations and organizations to mobilize over 3 billion VND and more than 1,200 working days to carry out local social works, such as: Building and repairing 22 bridges; repairing and upgrading 2km of rural roads; donating 2,300m2 of land to build schools and rural roads... Responding to the movement "Tet tree planting to remember Uncle Ho", all levels of associations and members participated in planting over 250,000 timber and fruit trees along rural roads, canal banks, flood-prevention dykes, and home gardens. At the same time, mobilized over 239 million VND to support students in difficult circumstances.
Participate in maintaining security and order
Through the patriotic emulation movement "Old age - bright example", the elderly in Tri Ton district have also actively participated in performing well the tasks of socio-economic development; maintaining security and social order; protecting the border and border markers. Typically, the Association of the Elderly in Tri Ton district has directed the Association of the Elderly in Lac Quoi and Vinh Gia communes to sign a plan to coordinate with the border guards in protecting the sovereignty and security of the border. On that basis, the elderly have provided valuable information to the border guards and local police for timely resolution.
In addition, implementing the coordination program between the Central Association of the Elderly and the Ministry of Public Security, the Association of the Elderly at all levels developed plans, deployed, and mobilized members and the elderly to participate in the movement "Protecting the security of the Fatherland" and the conference "Police listen to people's opinions". The police force of communes and towns received hundreds of valuable sources of information on security and order from the masses and the elderly. Deputy Head of the Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly in Tri Ton district, Pham Thi Le, said that through the meetings of branches and groups, the Association of the Elderly in communes and towns promptly disseminated information on the security and order situation, grasped the thoughts and aspirations of members. At the same time, mobilized members to actively participate in activities and movements in their residential areas. “Members always raise their awareness of vigilance, do not listen to the distorted arguments of bad people; fight against crime, repel social evils in the locality. Members also actively encourage relatives and neighbors to raise awareness of compliance and implementation of the State's laws; coordinate to successfully mediate many cases of marriage and family, disputes, and discord in the village…” - Ms. Pham Thi Le informed.
According to the Head of the Tri Ton District Elderly Association, Luong Hoang Son, up to now, there are 3,715 people receiving regular allowances and health insurance; longevity celebrations were held for 8,648 elderly people; Tet gifts were provided to 100% of single people and those in difficult circumstances; the monthly charity rice jar model was maintained to support 55 people... |
