Students show gratitude to their parents at the coming of age ceremony
Sitting in the parent row, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lam is different when wearing a simple Ao Ba Ba. She has only 2 daughters, living in My Hoa ward (Long Xuyen city). The older one had to drop out of school after 9th grade, the younger one tried to complete high school, which made her extremely happy. “Every day, I help with housework, my family’s circumstances are difficult, seeing my children reach this stage makes me very emotional. When I was in school, there were no ceremonies like this. I find it very good and meaningful, because it reminds the children to be grateful to their parents and teachers, and to be more mature in life” - Mrs. Lam confided.
Since 2019, Mr. Lam Huynh Manh Dong has been the Director of An Giang ContinuingEducation Center and has initiated a gratitude and maturity ceremony for 12th grade students. According to Mr. Dong, this is the time for students to decide their own future through their knowledge and personality maturity. 3 years is not a long time, but enough to bond, mature and remember. In that journey, it is impossible not to mention the parents who silently sacrifice and support the students with unconditional love. It is also impossible to forget to mention the dedicated teachers who accompany, impart knowledge and give wings to dreams to fly far.
Throughout the ceremony, teachers, parents and students were filled with many emotions when listening to the children share. The children at the age of puberty boldly stood in front of hundreds of people to look at themselves, there were times when they were angry and made their grandparents and parents silently turn away, there were times when they only thought about themselves, not knowing how to understand... Those were the moments when the children bowed their heads in gratitude, no matter how many words they could not fully express their feelings. Throughout the years of study, the students not only received knowledge, but also valuable lessons about morality, determination, how to live and how to be a human being.
The letter “Sincere thanks” from Xuan Nghi (class 12XH3) to her parents is like a fast-forward film looking back at her own emotions on the journey from kindergarten, primary school, middle school, high school... Somewhere among hundreds of 18-year-old students, there must be many people with the same mood, when there were times when they were not good, impulsive, and reckless. Parents still love and silently sacrifice so that they can see that family is a wonderful gift that life gives to each person. It is the moment when they realize the noble heart of their parents, they look back to correct their mistakes and become more mature.
For Van Thai Nguyen , class 12TN2, the dear image of his grandfather is deeply imprinted throughout his childhood with the early mornings when he woke him up to go to school. On an old motorbike, he took him to school, reminded him to sit firmly, wear his hat correctly and the words "study hard!" were repeated every day. "Once I was angry because he didn't give me money for snacks, then I found out that he secretly saved every penny for me to study. He endured the pain of illness, saving the best part of the food for me. He rarely taught me with words, but in each action contained many lessons, gently penetrating my heart over the years..." - Nguyen shared.
In the 2022-2025 school year, you are the first generation of students in the country to fully study the 2018 General Education Program and also the first generation of students to take the high school graduation exam under the new program - a comprehensive innovation program that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and lifelong learning. Not stopping there, you are a generation of students growing up in a period when the country is growing strongly, when Vietnam is entering the era of digital transformation, innovation and global integration. With your courage and confidence, you will be the ones to contribute to continuing the nation's aspirational development journey.
Leaving high school to embark on a new journey, full of opportunities and challenges. Gratitude is not just about words, maturity is not just about age. Parents all hope that no matter where they go or what they do, their innocent children will always maintain good values, gratitude and the will to constantly improve.
