On August 4, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) officially operated and exploited the VSTN land cable line - the first cable line connecting directly from Vietnam to Singapore entirely via land infrastructure.

This is not only a pioneering telecommunications project but also a clear testament to the national strategic vision of proactive connectivity, increased flexibility, security, and the ability to respond to any incident; at the same time, it marks a strong transformation of VNPT in mastering multimodal international connectivity infrastructure "from land, across the sea, and in space".

The VSTN cable line is a project of special significance both technically and strategically. With a total length of approximately 3,900km, the VSTN cable line passes through five countries: Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore; it is built entirely on land and connects directly from the VNPT technical center in Da Nang to leading international data centers in the region such as IDC Telehouse (Thailand), MY01 Cyberjaya, Equinix JH01 Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Equinix, or Global Switch (Singapore).

VSTN is a clear affirmation that Vietnam is no longer completely dependent on submarine cables. VNPT directly controls the entire route from Vietnam to Singapore from start to finish, not only ensuring independent operation capacity but also quickly handling incidents.

In the context of frequent and prolonged submarine cable failures affecting internet service quality and international connectivity, VSTN plays a crucial role as a backup route, strategically supplementing existing submarine cables and increasing the stability, proactiveness, and security of the national telecommunications infrastructure.

VSTN utilizes state-of-the-art DWDM (Difference Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transmission equipment, one of the most advanced technologies available today. Each wavelength can transmit a minimum capacity of 300Gbps, with a total line design capacity of up to 4Tbps and easily upgradeable to 12Tbps or more. This allows VSTN to not only meet current needs but also be ready for significant future growth.

VSTN is not only a technical step forward but also a strategic step for Vietnam to step out of its passive position, towards completely mastering the national telecommunications infrastructure, protecting data security, ensuring that information flow is transmitted smoothly and safely in all situations.

Currently, VNPT operates four major international submarine fiber optic cables: AAG, APG, AAE-1, and SJC-2, with a total length of over 65,000 km. SJC-2 is the newest submarine cable, recently completed. VNPT is also the first and only enterprise in Vietnam to own and operate two telecommunications satellites, Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2.

With the commissioning of the VSTN cable line, VNPT Group is gradually completing its multimodal transmission infrastructure ecosystem connecting land, sea, and space. This comprehensive combination not only helps VNPT ensure widespread coverage and strong transmission capabilities but also enhances the quality and reliability of domestic telecommunications services.

By putting the VSTN cable line into operation, VNPT not only adds a new transmission line, but also firmly affirms that Vietnamese people can completely master the most complex, safe and modern technological infrastructure.

Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT Group To Dung Thai spoke at the ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT Group, To Dung Thai, shared: "The VSTN cable line is the result of a long process of continuous effort, of creativity, perseverance in overcoming difficulties, of close cooperation between VNPT and domestic and international partners; and support from management agencies of both Vietnam and international friends."

Putting the cable line into operation once again affirms VNPT's pioneering role in mastering connection infrastructure, thereby contributing to building and protecting national digital sovereignty ; developing modern digital infrastructure, paving the way for Vietnam's digital economy and digital society to go further.

VNPT Group commits to continue investing, innovating, and cooperating with domestic and foreign partners so that today's results will be the premise for further development and expansion of the international connection network, bringing practical value to the country, businesses, and customers.

VNPT is not only building an infrastructure system, but also creating the future. VSTN is a clear demonstration of VNPT's technological capacity, strategic vision and strong commitment in the journey to accompany the country's digital development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung congratulated VNPT on launching the first international fiber optic cable connecting many ASEAN countries, a vivid image of a digital ASEAN.

Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung spoke at the ceremony.

Vietnam's telecommunications infrastructure has become a digital infrastructure, the infrastructure of the economy; therefore, the safety and sustainability of this digital infrastructure are extremely important. To ensure safety and sustainability, we must diversify, have many submarine fiber optic cables running in different directions, and especially have terrestrial fiber optic cables with very fast recovery capabilities. This is a directive from the Party and the State regarding the requirement for Vietnam's digital infrastructure to be safe and sustainable.

For nearly 30 years, Vietnam has never had an international cable line that was 100% owned and invested in by Vietnamese companies. With a proactive spirit, VNPT Group has rapidly deployed the international terrestrial fiber optic cable line, the first of its kind to be 100% invested in by Vietnamese individuals and businesses. It is hoped that this initial step will encourage more Vietnamese businesses to continue investing in new international fiber optic cable lines.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung hopes that Vietnam's digital infrastructure will continue to develop to have ultra-wide bandwidth, super-large capacity, universality, intelligence, open technology, safety, greenness and sustainability.

Beyond simply improving the quality of telecommunications connectivity, VSTN also holds immense significance in promoting regional cooperation. In the era of rapidly developing digital economy, data is considered a "new resource," and cross-border connectivity is key to the deep integration of ASEAN economies.

With the VSTN cable line, Vietnam has affirmed its position as a data transit center in the region, contributing to establishing a seamless digital corridor between Indochina and Southeast Asia.
