On August 4, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) officially operated and exploited the VSTN land cable line - the first cable line connecting directly from Vietnam to Singapore entirely via land infrastructure.

This is not only a pioneering telecommunications project but also a clear demonstration of the national strategic vision of proactive connectivity, increased flexibility, security and the ability to respond to all incidents; at the same time, it marks a strong transformation of VNPT in mastering multi-modal international connectivity infrastructure “from the ground, across the sea, in space”.

The VSTN cable line is a project of special significance both technically and strategically. With a total length of about 3,900km, the VSTN cable line passes through 5 countries: Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore; is built entirely on land and connects directly from the VNPT technical center in Da Nang to the region's leading international data centers such as IDC Telehouse (Thailand), MY01 Cyberjaya, Equinix JH01 Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Equinix or Global Switch (Singapore).

VSTN is a clear affirmation that Vietnam is no longer completely dependent on submarine cables. VNPT directly controls the entire route from Vietnam to Singapore from start to finish, not only ensuring independent operation capacity but also quickly handling incidents.

In the context of continuous and prolonged submarine cable incidents affecting the quality of internet services and international connections, VSTN plays the role of an important backup route, strategically supplementing existing submarine cable routes, increasing stability, proactiveness and safety for the national telecommunications infrastructure.

VSTN uses modern wavelength-multiplexed DWDM transmission equipment, one of the most advanced technologies today. Each wavelength can transmit a minimum capacity of 300Gbps, the total design of the entire line is up to 4Tbps and can be easily upgraded to 12Tbps or more. This helps VSTN not only meet current needs but also be ready for strong development in the near future.

VSTN is not only a technical step forward but also a strategic step for Vietnam to step out of its passive position, towards completely mastering the national telecommunications infrastructure, protecting data security, ensuring information flow is transmitted smoothly and safely in all situations.

VNPT is currently operating four major international submarine cable lines, including AAG, APG, AAE-1 and SJC-2, with a total length of over 65,000km. Of these, SJC-2 is the newest submarine cable line that has just been completed. VNPT is also the first and only enterprise in Vietnam that currently owns and operates two telecommunications satellites, Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2.

With the VSTN cable line put into operation, VNPT Group is gradually completing the multi-modal transmission infrastructure ecosystem connecting from land, sea, to space. This complete combination not only helps VNPT ensure wide coverage and strong transmission capacity but also improves the quality and reliability of domestic telecommunications services.

By putting the VSTN cable line into operation, VNPT not only adds a new transmission line, but also firmly affirms that Vietnamese people can completely master the most complex, safe and modern technological infrastructure.

Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT Group To Dung Thai spoke at the ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT Group To Dung Thai shared: Having VSTN cable line is the result of a long process of continuous efforts, of creativity, perseverance in overcoming difficulties, of close companionship between VNPT and domestic and international partners; and support from management agencies of both Vietnam and international friends.

Putting the cable line into operation once again affirms VNPT's pioneering role in mastering connection infrastructure, thereby contributing to building and protecting national digital sovereignty ; developing modern digital infrastructure, paving the way for Vietnam's digital economy and digital society to reach further.

VNPT Group commits to continue investing, innovating, and cooperating with domestic and foreign partners so that today's results will be the premise for further development and expansion of the international connection network, bringing practical value to the country, businesses, and customers.

VNPT is not only building an infrastructure system, but also creating the future. VSTN is a clear demonstration of VNPT's technological capacity, strategic vision and strong commitment in the journey of accompanying the country's digital development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung congratulated VNPT on launching the first international fiber optic cable connecting many ASEAN countries, a vivid image of a digital ASEAN.

Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung spoke at the ceremony.

Vietnam's telecommunications infrastructure has become digital infrastructure, the infrastructure of the economy, so the safety and sustainability of digital infrastructure is extremely important. To ensure safety and sustainability, we must diversify, have many submarine fiber optic cables, going in many different directions, especially land fiber optic cables with very fast recovery. This is the order of the Party and the State on the requirement for Vietnam's digital infrastructure to be safe and sustainable.

For nearly 30 years, Vietnam has never had an international cable line 100% invested by Vietnamese people. VNPT Group, with its aggressive spirit, has very quickly deployed the international land fiber optic cable line, the first line 100% invested by Vietnamese people and Vietnamese enterprises. Hopefully, from this beginning, many Vietnamese enterprises will continue to be investors in new international fiber optic cable lines.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung hopes that Vietnam's digital infrastructure will continue to develop to have ultra-wide bandwidth, super-large capacity, universality, intelligence, open technology, safety, greenness and sustainability.

Not only does it contribute to improving the quality of telecommunications connections, VSTN also plays a significant role in promoting regional cooperation. In the era of a rapidly developing digital economy, data is considered a "new resource" and cross-border connectivity is the key to deep integration of ASEAN economies.

With the VSTN cable line, Vietnam has affirmed its position as a data transit center in the region, contributing to establishing a seamless digital corridor between Indochina and Southeast Asia.
