Mr. Nguyen Hoai Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Lam Dong province, shared this at the workshop.

On the afternoon of December 10th, in Lam Dong province, the Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with several related units, organized a scientific workshop entitled "Results of applied science and technology research in Lam Dong province during the period 2021-2025 and some orientations to 2030".

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Lam Dong province, said: "Before and after the merger, Lam Dong was one of the leading localities in the country with a large area of agricultural land applying high technology, focusing on key crops such as vegetables, flowers, coffee, strawberries...".

In addition, the province is actively promoting the application of technology in the traceability of agricultural products to enhance value, build brands, and strengthen consumer confidence. The province has implemented many comprehensive solutions and achieved encouraging initial results.

Lam Dong province leads the country in the area of high-tech agricultural production, with over 21% of its cultivated area (approximately 69,637 hectares) applying scientific and technological advancements, and many models achieving high production value. The applied technologies are diverse, including automated irrigation and water-saving technologies; greenhouse and net house technologies; biological pest control technologies; post-harvest preservation technologies; and especially IoT (Internet of Things) technology and digital transformation in farm management.

Lam Dong province focuses on building value chains from production to processing and consumption, with many agricultural products being granted planting area codes, packaging facility codes, and traceability labels to serve export purposes.

By 2030, Lam Dong province aims for a green and sustainable agricultural sector, harmoniously combining production efficiency with environmental and landscape protection. The province has been attracting smart agriculture projects and collaborating with international organizations (such as Japan's JICA model) to research and apply advanced agricultural development models.

Lam Dong province's main goal is to build a modern agricultural sector, creating products that meet international standards, thereby expanding export markets. The application of traceability technology is mandatory, given that consumers and importing markets consider it a required criterion.

Accordingly, the province has been promoting the application of product traceability technology, viewing it as an important solution for transparency and building consumer trust.

Furthermore, the Lam Dong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center regularly organizes training courses on the application of information technology in product traceability and regional product coding, aiming to raise awareness and capacity among farmers and businesses. The province is working towards standardizing data and connecting the local traceability system with the National Product and Goods Traceability Information Portal to ensure consistency and easier verification.

Despite significant progress, the application of traceability still faces numerous challenges. Many farmers and small businesses are not fully aware of the importance or are hesitant about the costs and technical aspects of adopting new technologies. Investing in traceability systems, especially technologies like IoT and blockchain, requires significant financial resources and infrastructure that many small producers struggle to afford.

Furthermore, the use of multiple disparate platforms makes it difficult to link data between different stages of the supply chain. In particular, the accuracy and timeliness of input data still heavily depend on the conscientiousness of those directly involved in production.

To support Lam Dong province in enhancing the brand image of its agricultural products in the future, Vietnam Anti-Counterfeiting Technology Joint Stock Company (ACTIV) offers the TrueData traceability solution.

According to Mr. Pham Van Tho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACTIV Company, TrueData helps agricultural businesses create absolute transparency about product origin. Through this system, consumers can easily access detailed information about the production process, from planting, caring, harvesting, processing to distribution, thereby building strong trust in agricultural brands.

One of TrueData's main advantages is its use of advanced anti-counterfeiting technology compared to conventional QR code/barcode labels. This helps prevent the peeling of genuine product labels to affix to counterfeit products, protecting the rights of both legitimate manufacturers and consumers.

The application of the TrueData solution helps Vietnamese agricultural products meet the mandatory traceability requirements under Circular 02/2024/TT-BKHCN of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the stringent standards of export markets such as the EU, the US, and Australia. This facilitates the entry of agricultural products into the global supply chain.

In addition, TrueData's system allows businesses to track and manage their entire supply chain in real time. The collected data helps businesses quickly detect production problems such as diseases, nutritional deficiencies, identify defective products, and implement timely recalls, minimizing losses.

At the workshop, delegates presented papers assessing the results of research and application of science and technology in Lam Dong province during the 2021-2025 period. They also identified achievements, limitations, and their causes; proposed solutions and directions for research and application of science and technology in Lam Dong province until 2030, in line with the province's strategic orientation and socio-economic development plan, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Congress.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for sharing, collaboration, and linkages among management agencies, universities, businesses, and localities in research and application of science and technology.
