According to RT, President Putin recently stated that Russia will achieve all its objectives in the special military operation in Ukraine. Some of the main goals Putin outlined for 2022 include protecting the population of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics from Kyiv's forces, as well as demilitarizing and eliminating fascism from Ukraine.
"Of course, we will pursue this until we achieve a reasonable outcome, until we achieve the goals of the special military operation," President Putin stated.

The Kremlin leader added that the conflict erupted because Ukraine deployed troops to Donbass, which refused to recognize the new government that came to power in Kyiv after the 2014 coup. According to President Putin, this forced Russia to use military force to end the conflict.
Last week, President Putin told India Today that Russia had been trying to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means for eight years and "signed the Minsk agreements in the hope that the conflict could be resolved by peaceful means."
"However, Western leaders later publicly admitted that they never intended to respect those agreements," Putin said, arguing that they only signed them to give Ukraine more time to rearm.
Russia welcomes US President Donald Trump's new diplomatic efforts with his 28-point peace plan as a basis for a solution. However, Moscow believes Kyiv is delaying peace talks. Russia maintains its desire for a diplomatic solution, but emphasizes it will push to achieve its goals through military means while Ukraine delays negotiations.
