After years of silence, Finnish company Jolla announced on X that a new generation of Jolla Phones is coming soon. The devices feature refreshed hardware, a privacy-focused operating system, and the expectation of delivering an experience that Android and iOS haven't yet achieved.

The Jolla Phone comes in three colors inspired by the Nordic landscape: black, white, and orange. Unlike many current smartphones with sealed backs, the Jolla Phone's back cover can be easily removed, and the internal battery is also removable.

Inside, the device boasts modern hardware with 5G connectivity, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It supports expansion up to 2TB via microSD card and has two nano SIM slots.

At the front is a 6.36-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution, protected by Gorilla Glass.

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The full specifications for the selfie camera have not yet been released.

The hardware is only half the story. At the heart of the device is Sailfish OS 5, the latest version of the Linux-based mobile operating system developed by Jolla.

The company describes Sailfish as the only commercially available mobile operating system in Europe and places a strong emphasis on privacy.

Jolla asserts that Sailfish has no tracking. No background data collection. No Google Play integration. However, the company also understands that users still need many familiar Android apps. Sailfish OS supports running Android applications.

The device also has a physical switch on the left to instantly turn off the microphone, camera, Bluetooth, and other sensors. Jolla says this product is the result of 12 years of development amidst the disappearance of many mobile platforms, including Symbian, MeeGo, Firefox OS, and Windows Phone. Currently, only four major mobile operating systems remain globally, and Sailfish is the only representative from Europe.

The Jolla Phone is now open for pre-order with a deposit of 99 EUR, equivalent to approximately 3.45 million VND. Early bird orders will receive a discounted price of 499 EUR. The expected retail price ranges from 599 EUR to 699 EUR, equivalent to approximately 20.96 million VND and 24.45 million VND respectively.

However, the device will only go into production if it receives a minimum of 2,000 pre-orders by January 4, 2026. The good news is that Jolla says it has already reached more than half of this goal through its crowdfunding platform.
