Medicinal herbs from the family kitchen can help cure simple diseases such as garlic, ginger, onion, green tea...

During Tet, the cold and humid weather in the North combined with a lot of traveling and changing lifestyles lead to a number of health problems. Dr. Nguyen Minh Trang, Deputy Head of Traditional Medicine Department, Bach Mai Hospital ( Hanoi ) shares simple ways to prevent and treat diseases during Tet:

According to traditional medicine, late winter and early spring, the weather is cold and damp, people are more susceptible to illness, especially the elderly, children and people with chronic diseases. Some diseases that can be contracted when exposed to cold or sudden changes in temperature include: Facial paralysis (peripheral cranial nerve VII palsy); acute torticollis, colds, respiratory infections, stroke... Therefore, when going out, you need to wear enough warm clothes, keep your neck covered, stay at home to avoid drafts, avoid bathing too late at night, especially children and the elderly.

Tet dishes such as sausage, cold cuts, meat jelly, Chinese sausage, ham, etc. are all high in salt and fat, so they are not good for people who need a low-salt, low-fat diet and people with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, and high blood pressure.

In addition, during Tet, changes in lifestyle, irregular meals, lots of sweets and alcohol also aggravate digestive diseases such as stomach ulcers, colitis, hemorrhoids, etc.

The spices in your kitchen cabinet that are good for your health during Tet holiday that you should eat are spicy and warm ones like pepper, ginger, galangal, and chili to warm your body.
