Lesson 3 - Lasting values

Bac Kan is about to enter an important historical milestone: Merging with Thai Nguyen province, returning to the land that once shared the same roof nearly three decades ago. At that moment, Bac Kan people cannot help but be troubled and emotional. However, above all emotions is pride: We have had a journey of innovation and growth with the country.

Bac Kan is one of the areas with important political and military positions in the North. The people of Bac Kan have built up valuable traditions, which are the spirit of diligence in labor, indomitable and resilient in the struggle to protect the homeland. That has become the premise for the people of Bac Kan to raise up a heroic and vibrant revolutionary movement when the light of revolution shines, accompanying the whole country to rise up for national independence and socialism, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam headed by President Ho Chi Minh.

In the history of building and defending the nation, the people of Bac Kan have always stood side by side with the people of the whole country to firmly protect independence, sovereignty , unity and territorial integrity.

During the resistance war against French colonialism, Bac Kan province was chosen by the Party Central Committee to build a safe zone (ATK). As a revolutionary base, Bac Kan made every effort to protect the leaders and the Party and State leadership agencies; wholeheartedly sheltered, sheltered, and helped the Central army, agencies, enterprises, and warehouses to evacuate... During the Viet Bac Campaign in the Fall - Winter of 1947, many heroic fighters, many mountain and river names became historical places, associated with glorious feats such as Phu Thong, Deo Giang...

Through many fluctuations and changes along with the separation and merger of administrative boundaries, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Bac Kan province have always promoted the revolutionary tradition, worked hard, creatively, united, overcome difficulties and challenges to build an increasingly prosperous homeland.

Overcoming difficulties and challenges step by step, Bac Kan province has grown strongly, affirming its determination to build its homeland to develop more and more, firmly on the path of innovation.

The average GRDP growth rate of the province in the period 1997-2024 reached 7.6%/year. After 28 years of re-establishment, the economic scale of Bac Kan increased nearly 52 times; per capita income increased nearly 45 times; budget revenue increased 57 times.

By the end of 2024, Bac Kan province will have 32 communes and 74 villages meeting new rural standards, 4 communes meeting advanced new rural standards. The whole province currently has 245 OCOP products with 3 stars or more, including 04 5-star OCOP products.

Industry has developed, the transportation system has been expanded, upgraded and newly built. Up to now, 100% of communes, wards and towns have car roads to the center. The BOT route Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi, the road of Bac Kan city - Ba Be lake has been completed and put into use; the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway has just started construction. 06 industrial clusters have been established to create the premise for development and investment attraction. The telecommunications and internet network has been invested in and expanded, 100% of communes, wards and towns have mobile phone signals, fiber optic transmission, and radio and television stations. 98.2% of households have access to the national grid.

Education and training have improved a lot, the whole province has 138/280 schools meeting national standards; 108/108 communes, wards and towns meeting national standards on universalizing lower secondary education, completing the goal of eliminating illiteracy, universalizing primary education at the right age and meeting the standard of universalizing preschool education for 5-year-old children. The health network from the province to the grassroots level has been consolidated, meeting the people's needs for medical examination and treatment; 108/108 communes, wards and towns meet the national criteria on health.

To date, 100% of provincial and district-level officials and civil servants meet the standard requirements before appointment; 85.8% of officials and civil servants have university degrees or higher. The quality of the staff has been gradually improved in terms of political level, expertise, ethics, capacity, and working skills, meeting the requirements of tasks in the new situation.

On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the province's founding (April 11, 1900 - April 11, 2025), the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Bac Kan province were honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal. This is an honor and pride for Bac Kan, and also a recognition by the Party and State for the tireless efforts of the Party Committee, government and people of the whole province over the past period.

Back in 1996, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued a resolution to split Bac Thai province into two provinces, Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen, to carry out political tasks in line with the development strategy of that period, which was to carry out industrialization and modernization of the country.
