Reuters quoted an anonymous source as saying that about 30 foreign pilots have left Bamboo Airways (Tre Viet Aviation Joint Stock Company) since June after their salaries were delayed, accounting for more than 10% of the airline's total pilots.
Some of the airline's pilots have recently resigned and others have been laid off.
Specifically, a message from a Bamboo Airways representative on August 21 told foreign pilots that they would receive 35% of their monthly salary that day, a week overdue. The rest would be announced later.
In fact, Bamboo Airways employees have faced salary delays, but this is the first time this has affected foreign pilots. To date, they have not received their August salaries, which were due on September 15.
On Reuters, a representative of Bamboo Airways said that the airline is implementing a major restructuring plan, including its flight network, fleet and human resources. The Vietnamese airline has recently cut some pilot staff to serve this goal. Along with that, Bamboo Airways denied that delayed salary payments were the reason for the pilots leaving.
The company is currently "operating stably and has plans to raise capital from strategic shareholders." One of the major financial backers is Sacombank , but so far, Sacombank has not made any comments.
Previously, in a letter to employees last month, the company's leaders also acknowledged that the company was facing "difficult times" but the Government pledged to support the company.
Bamboo Airways is the third-largest airline, operating both international and domestic routes, accounting for about 17% of the market share in Vietnam. The company reported a loss of about 17.6 trillion VND (722 million USD) last year.
