This was a transfer that was predicted for Liverpool and Nunez. At the end of last season, the Uruguayan striker was banished to the bench by coach Arne Slot due to poor performance.
The tragic death of Diogo Jota in an accident seemed to change Nunez's future. The Uruguayan striker continued to be associated with Liverpool during the summer tour and played quite well.
But the "Red Brigade" leadership still chose to buy another striker. After spending 95 million euros to buy Ekitike, Liverpool continued to ask to buy Alexander Isak - who is valued at more than 120 million euros from Newcastle.
It is not clear whether Liverpool will buy Isak or not. But their plan seems to end Nunez's future at Anfield.
The Uruguayan striker joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2022, for a transfer fee of up to 85 million euros.
Despite not playing badly in the past 3 years, Nunez still hasn't really proven that he's worth the money Liverpool spent.
In 143 appearances, Nunez has scored just 40 goals, and only seven last season. He has often missed great chances, becoming the subject of ridicule in English football.
Liverpool have accepted a maximum loss of 32 million euros ($37 million) when selling Nunez to Al Hilal. This is the minimum transfer fee Liverpool will receive. If Nunez meets Al Hilal's conditions, Liverpool could collect several million euros in additional fees in the future.
With the sale of Nunez to Al Hilal, Liverpool has collected nearly 220 million euros from player sales this summer. In the opposite direction, they have now spent 340 million euros to bring in a series of expensive new recruits.
