On the morning of October 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association held a meeting to inform about the festival "Promoting Vietnamese culinary culture" held from October 20 to 22 at the Independence Palace.

Advertised as a festival gathering stalls selling regional delicacies to serve the public, visitors were surprised to see so many stalls selling fried fish balls, fried beef balls, etc.

Explaining this, Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, said that street food has registered a number of stalls for the festival. However, there are stalls that register for banh xeo and banh khot; at the festival, these stalls display street food including fish balls, beef balls, and skewered meat on the outside, banh xeo displayed inside, and only when someone buys them will they make the cakes.

People and tourists at the festival "Promoting Vietnamese culinary culture" were surprised to see many stalls selling fried fish balls.

"There are a total of 7 street food stalls located in the D area, but the display is so full that it makes visitors feel overwhelmed. This ratio in the total of 90 stalls is not too much, meeting the needs from the common to the high-end of the people. Street food is a part of the cuisine, the development trend of society. During this period, we will take note of the feedback from visitors and learn from experience for the next organization," Ms. Khanh explained.

In addition, in response to the high prices of noodles and pho, poor quality, and sugarcane juice at VND20,000/cup, the representative of the organizing committee said that many places bring their specialties to the festival. Some places such as the Central Highlands and the Northwest also want to bring their specialties to participate, but preservation conditions do not allow it or due to the rain and flood situation, affecting travel.

The organizers said there were only 7 stalls selling fried fish balls, fried shrimp balls...

"As for high prices, we need to consider whether the prices are commensurate with the quality. The organizers always remind the stalls not to increase prices and ensure quality. For example, when registering to sell a glass of sugarcane juice, they announced it was 15,000 VND/glass, but when selling, they charged customers 20,000 VND. This is also a shortcoming in price monitoring, we will learn from experience and make adjustments," said Ms. Khanh.

According to the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, this year the organizers chose October 20 as the festival because it is World Chefs Day - a festival held to honor chefs who have contributed to Vietnamese cuisine.

However, due to the time and location, the organizers encountered some weather difficulties when it rained heavily before and during the festival.

The organizers said they will monitor prices and learn from experience for the next event.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association said that regional food stalls attracted a large number of visitors, such as Hanoi fish cakes and Soc Trang noodle soup. The festival was organized to ensure food hygiene and safety, attracting about 50,000 visitors.
